I pay less than that for 2 years on mine.

 

I’d take a small win and go for gas being cheaper. This whole driving 60 miles a day in a truck that gets 14.5 mpg on a good day cuts into my mod budget! First world problems…

 

That ain't nothin' dude, I think some states steal.. I mean charge almost a grand for annual registration.

This is the 4th time I'm registering the Tundra and it only drops by a fixed percentage per year for the first 5 years. Then it locks at that price for the life of the vehicle.

What kills me the most about that is the $1.00 for postage assessed to the total. WTH... eat the damn price of a stamp!!!!!

Still half of the Seattle-Tacoma area. You have no income tax, sales tax is 5.x% and property tax is cheap/reasonable…I’ve been researching you…err, WY recently

 

I believe it recently dropped from $84 to $80 a year here because the government stopped requiring us to put new expiry stickers on every year to save people money but the registries went ahead and tacked on some new $9 fee so we didn't come out ahead.

 

How do you find anything in that shop! I’m too distracted by the background.

The point of it all is that the guberment gets its pound of flesh. Wyoming is continually pushing for ways to increase guber revenue rather than controlling spending, and things presented include adding a highway use tax/miles tax, fees for mountain bikers to use trails, etc. Things already implemented are favoritism toward out of state hunters in the form of preferential draw odds for tags, nearly doubling the price of conservation stamps, etc. That is combined with a lack of access to lots of amenities, above national average fuel prices, and more miles driven per capita that almost every other state.

We also have lower wages justified by the perceived lower cost of living. Yet homes aren't much cheaper than anywhere else. Casper, for example, has expensive homes. Know why? The fees and charges to hook up to utilities average about $80,000.

If you're not moving into Wyoming with mass equity from selling your cali/washington/new york home then you're boned. Working your way up in Wyoming from the bottom takes ages, and inflation steadily outpaces pay increases in the best of times. In bad times you backslide and quality of life based on income drops for the majority of the state.

I'm making 30% more money than my childhood household did, don't drink, have no children, and can afford less than they could. I don't have a brand new 1 ton diesel, 30 foot camper, 22 foot boat, multiple ATVs, a Lincoln Town Car, a commuter car, riding mower, $700 a month in beer, dental coverage, 3 kids, or 4 packs a day smoking habit that was paid for on 30% less money than I'm earning, and I don't have any kind of savings to show for it either.

If you don't bring your own money with you, don't expect to move here and see things go better for you.

Toeing the line here; but... The contingent of people in Texas pressuring us to go down this path is increasing. People moving here from everywhere, who are escaping the consequences of failed tax-and-spend policy, are voting for those same policies to take hold here. The phrase 'Don't California My Texas' is popular on T-shirts... The influx of people is driving up the cost of homes (e.g., the tax-appraised value of my house jumped more than 1/3 in the 8 years I've lived here). We even have conservative politicians entertaining the idea of an income tax now. Very disheartnening.
