im planning on installing some bushwacker fender flares and am a little worried about paint protection after removing mud flaps. What do you guys do for paint protection? I'm contemplating getting some clear bra material and putting it in the rear between the bumper and wheel well that is notorious for rock chips. I was also contemplating putting on a thick layer of plastidip. The white plastidip matches super white 2 almost perfectly. Thoughts?

The plastidip would work but you will need lots of coats the make it strong. How wide of fender flare is it? I put the factory Toyota ones on for I could keep my mud flaps.

Bushwacker pocket style fender flares won't allow reinstallation of mud flaps. I haven't figured out how to mod it so these can be reinstalled yet. So far, there is no sign of paint damage. But then again, my tires are basically flush with the fender flares.

I just installed mine yesterday, I'm still debating whether or not to paint them. I like they way black looks on a white truck. I am more concerned with the area behind the mud flaps where the paint is now exposed.

Does the Expel have to be professionally applied or can be DIY?

FJ cost $3,000.00/ with tint on all windows
Tundra $5,000.00/ with tint on all windows
Do not try yourself the film the good stuff only goes to professionals carried warranty and needs clean room to prevent debris under film panels are 60" sheets and only have one or two seems would be hard to install at home.

So this is basically covering the total surface area of the truck. I was thinking it was applying a film on areas exposed to rocks and such. I'm in sage brush a lot. Not much I can do about that. I like the finished look it gives. Pretty cool.

I have installed a plastic coating from Laminx. I used it on all the door edges, around the door handles and on the tail gate where you grab it to close it. It comes in different size sheets and is very ez to install. This may work for you. So far I have been happy with it

Lamin-x.com. I originally bought some fog lights from a company called Resource and they came with Amber Laminx for them. So I found the company who made the film, which was Lamin-x. So I bought some clear from them direct.

They have front end kits if that's all you need. I figure why have just the front looking good after a year or two the whole truck looks new always.

Can you buy it in sheets to do small areas or do you have to do the whole truck?

You can do as much as you want or as little check to see if there are any installers in your area. Look at the pictures the paint always looks wet and waxed.image.jpgimage.jpg

Some films yellow some separate (meaning if you goto take off the glue stays on the car and is a nightmare to remove) if you develope swirl marks or small nicks from washing waxing at 74 degrees the film heals. The picture of the FJ is after 26,000 highway miles still looks new was offered 30k as trade in if traded in on tundra due to condition.

If I had a Pro I'd probably consider the full blown coverage. I'm still trying to find my money tree seeds.

Picture this you come out to your 50k truck and see rock chips or door dings WTF you think. Paint jobs cost tons. Resell value goes up because your truck is in a time capsule. I can peel off and it looks showroom new all the lettering and fenders and cladding is over the film. If I wanted to sell and someone didn't like it peel it all off and stock with perfect paint.
Like I said I paid 31k for FJ in 2013 have 26k miles on it and was offered 30k as trade in due to perfect condition. It pays for itself like the one post they had rock chips and damage from regular use. The truck doesn't look new, with the film it always does.

Definitely the show truck look. Very nice. Can see how it helps maintaining value.

People have issues with this film on lights and vehicles. You get what you pay for. Lights I use weather tech film. If you have ever seen 3m film turn yellow or other brands separate or go bad you know. I don't like spending money but I have the only tundra pro within hundreds of miles and I want it to look perfect always. My last car rusted and looked bad due to rock chips and other road debris. Never again. The dealer here never had anyone wrap a whole truck and a Toyota rep even came down to check it out. More people are starting do do it to their high end cars because they saw what the dealer was doing, 240,000 Porsche was done after the owner saw the benefits of the whole car being protected. I like driving through town and having people say nice truck, or staring and wanting one. I was even offered to sell. My only regret is Toyota will no longer offer super chargers and I have a flex fuel and can't use one

Does the whole film needs to be replaced if one gets into an accident? How does one go about repairing a portion of the film? Do you need another film to protect these films?
