The other day I took my Limited Tundra with the Panoramic Camera system through the local car wash, a Club Carwash location (clubcarwash.com). This was probably my 5th trip through this carwash.

As I usually do, I folded in the side mirrors and went through the wash. The wash was about complete, and I re-deployed the side mirrors as I entered the drying zone (high-speed fans). There was a loud banging sound on the truck's passenger side, and I could see a black piece of something that appeared to be caught under the mirror.

After the wash, I immediately parked in one of the stalls and walked around the truck. Hanging down by the wiring harness from the passenger mirror was a black piece of plastic with the camera still attached. I looked at all of the connecting tabs; they appeared intact, and the trim piece did not appear broken. The trim piece readily snapped back into place. I started the truck, and that camera's view seemed normal from that camera.

I am considering placing a small piece of clear tape along the leading lower edge of the mirror arm to prevent the piece from separating again.

My thought was that the wind's force in the car wash was strong enough to separate the trim piece—a first time for everything.

Had puddle lights pop out a couple of time at the car wash on my 2017 Tundra.
Once on the highway at 80+ MPH.
I ended up wrapping them in electric tape a bit, just to add friction and make them tighter in the opening.

..... a testament to Toyota engineering, eh?
    :/

There's been a few posts here with people having that piece fall off, and not even with the gale force wind of a car wash but just on the highway from memory. Hopefully there were no permanent scratches but you should get toyota to fix whatever damage was done regardless.

I'm gonna go glue mine in now.....

This has been reported by many where the bottom of the passenger mirror just comes off. Those that I’ve read were from folks just driving down the road when it happens. Without inspecting, my take is the tabs are not snug enough to hold in a wind. I’d keep an eye on it or if it continues to happen, let the dealer know.

Yeah. Like the driveway, with a foam cannon, and the two bucket method and a good polisher. Car washes are horrendous on your paint.

Never ever have I taken a newer vehicle thru an automatic car wash. Even the "touchless" ones use enough cleaners to strip the wax. I have on occasion used the car wash hand wand (on rinse only) to help keep clean/rinse off salt in the winter when it was too cold to hand wash

For Sure - this!!!! you will ruin your paint finish in a car wash! even touchless as they say - it's easy enough to do it with a foam cannon/2 buckets ... you've already done it 5 times! scratches galore ! and no finish left almost guaranteed.

I keep waiting for someone to open a bay carwash with high pressure that allows handwashing. In cold weather areas touchless is really all there is.

agree with others, skip the auto car wash, horrible for the finish. They damage a vehicle over time.

Back before I had my own driveway, I was lucky enough to find a hand car wash. Sure took a lot longer and the wait time was agony if you didn't drop and go, but the end result vs a tunnel wash was night & day. I believe I would pay $30 + tip

I'm talking here about doing my own hand wash. Most bay washes say no buckets allowed.
