The new normal. We had the same problem with our patio project. Going on two years now…

Unfortunately it seems that is the new normal..I've called about 15 contractors to get bids for a shop and only 1 has shown up when they said they would.

Using up the scrap wood from yesterday's demo work. I'll be building another one of these boxes. One for wood cut off storage and the other probably wil get used as a garden box.

I'll take the job, don't worry, I am totally qualified. Not only have I installed a toilet or 2,but I've also put in a new faucet.

Just know though all that knowledge doesn't come cheap.

Careful if treated. I've been told and read not to use treated wood for garden boxes if vegetables are planted cuz the chemical will be absorbed by the plant. Just passing what I've heard

Interesting. Never heard that. This wood isn't treated, hence it being pretty rough. I ended up needing both boxes for cut off storage so guess that solves that.

Did some landscaping. Removed old shutters, powerwashed house, installed new shutters, created mulched flower bed, replaced old mulch and pavers with new river rock and patio block. My 1st time and nothing is perfect, but I'm satisfied. Also, new fire pit. Sorry if the pix are too large.

No…shocking. Never in my life could I not threaten to give someone 70,000.00 for some work and people not wanting it. Easy money.

We just started doing things ourselves and cut the cost down a lot.

I’m in the same boat doing my remodel as after a few contractors I finally got one to give me a quote and then said they couldn’t start for 5-6 months so I said forget it. Nuts out there

This seems to be the case everywhere. Contractors would rather be building entire home than doing piecemeal work. Will probably be the case until the housing market gets saturated then the worm will turn. I have been trying to get a carpet seam repair done for about 6 months and can't even get anyone to give me an estimate. And, I've told them that I understand if they need to schedule the repair around other work.

Flowers and such, no big deal, but don’t plant veggies in a treated wood planter.

This link that Chris posted leads to believe it is ok
but I’m not about to put the food that goes into my body in a box of dirt that is next to chemical-injected wood. We also don’t use any chemical pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers either though.

I stick with cedar myself. Or CMU blocks, and a few galvanized water troughs

No biggie just knocked out one of the wife's "I wish the _____ had _____" jobs. The island needed more than the single outlet it had. So changed it to a double and added same to other side for a place to keep Alexa and the aroma therapy thing plugged into.

I recently purchased this B-hyve Wi-Fi & Bluetooth watering timer to keep some new crape myrtle trees watered in my back yard. I purchased the Bluetooth unit and the Wi-Fi hub and downloaded the app to control and program the system. Setup was very easy and great to keep my new trees healthy in this 100 plus heat. 95456E83-8B69-4CE2-AD06-C07DA2AAAC75.jpg

Looks great! Do you happen to have a multi tool? I have a few tips if you need to make more cuts. It makes this kind of work a little easier when removing and reinstalling.

not installed today but last night 11,000 homes, including ours, lost power. it was the first time our tesla powerwall batteries (2x powerwall2's) kicked in. of course tundra visibility and security cameras were one of the drivers to invest in these. :) you can see the batteries started discharging about 12:30pm and then they were fully depleted by 5:30pm'ish. we didn't even know the power went down or we would've shutdown the central a/c plus room a/c's. that would have helped last through 8hrs. i'll be setting up alert notifications from the grid vendor so once a power outage hits i can decrease power utilization to maximize battery time. pretty cool to be on when everyone else is off.
