Can anyone identify this washer thingy that I found in my drain pan after an oil change, and I don't mean the quarter, that's in the picture for a size reference. The edges look as if it was broken off of something. Any ideas?

Is it possible it was already in the drain pan? Is it small enough to even fit through the drain?

Looks like a neoprene washer to seal the oil pan bolt to the oil pan. Probably was stuck on when you removed the bolt and fell off.

That's the washer that goes on the drain plug.

If you buy OEM filters at the dealership they give you a new washer.

    Welcome from NY.

That's my guess too. Drain plug gasket/washer.

Its not neoprene, it's made out of metal. It is not a crush washer. both the outside edge and inside edge look as if it was broken away from something. It was not in the Oil pan prior to the oil change.

Note that "oil pan" and "drain pan" are different. Just to avoid confusion.

That is too big to have came out of drain hole on the oil pan. I can't think of anything else likely.

This is a new drain plug gasket. Layers of metal and rubber. Kinda rough edges. I don't have a used one to get pic for you but imagine it being smashed a bit after about 10k miles on a hot engine surface. They sometimes stick to the oil pan instead of coming off neatly on the plug.

Basically, if you aren't seeing any odd gauge readings or leaks, i wouldn't worry.

edit: also, dealers sometimes have slightly different variations for these washers/gaskets.

Yes, that's it exactly minus the rubber or neoprene coating. Thanks guys.
