    just an observation...

I reckon >80% of all EV's sold today are Tesla.

The big 3, et al, can't produce a competitive product.

MAAAYYYBEEE Rivian. but they can't ramp up fast enough.

I was going to drop a thought about the progressive side of this great country not liking Elon or Tesla, and the irony of going ev/green.....but I refrained- because I'm tolerant.

    yeah...I'm tolerant. that's it.

so, we drove the Model S to Galveston last Sunday. Gaido's has seafood straight from the Gulf....heck, I used to sell them Snapper when I was in high school.

I punched it at 60mph to pass & it was at 85mph in about 2 sec. whoa.

The Tundra will do it in about 4 sec...after downshifting, hitting boost, making noise, belching fuel rich soot & then scooting.

    EV's are amazing.

The new in-car cue is "head's back"...then, the crew knows it's about to go down.

And even with the non competitive EVs they are producing, the margins are negative or very low

Now, apply $13 to an ice vehicle that won’t even budge the line for a few gallons

8 drive units to reach a million miles?! I am unfamiliar with a drive unit…is that comparable to an engine/transmission in an ICE vehicle? Needing 8 engines and/or transmissions to get to a million miles is not something I would be advertising under any circumstances.

Yes, but in 2013 they had known issues for this model. I believe he had all of his warrantied
    https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1093713_tesla-model-s-drive-unit-replacements-how-big-a-problem

I’ve seen (read) several other teslas reporting zero issues at 300-500k+.

Whatever this forum told me to do
    the skinny on self driving:

not for me...it's awesome, don't get me wrong. it's an amazing technology for a car to be able to do this. the big 3 are YEARS behind Tesla.

but going down I-10 between San Antonio & Houston is TRAFFIC. 1/3 of which is 18 wheelers & 1/3 being folks draggin huge campers going 80mph.

I like being in the far side of the lane when those folks pass...Tesla likes to ride right down the middle.

    I guess it's habit.

So I dropped back to the normal laser cruise control.
My quibble with this is...The Tundra has laser cruise control & the "3 bar" distance is PERFECT. the max setting on Tesla is 7 car lengths. but it is closer than the Tundra! I swear it's a tad more than 2 car lengths.....I wish I could set the Tesla to give a little bit more room. The Tundra feel like 4 car lengths.

and I finally got Tesla-Waze to work on the dash!

I noticed the following distance issue with my Model 3 as well. There seems to be no difference between 7 car lengths and 4 cars lengths and it’s actually following at 3 car lengths. On of my big gripes with Tesla is the lack of normal cruise control. Adaptive cruise control has its place, but I like normal cruise control that I manage.

    another observation....

When diving to San Antonio...it was an ambient 102 degrees. the car started to make a noise...like a shop vac was running under the frunk. sorta concerning

We pulled into the Amigo's Tesla supercharger station in Flatonia.....and all the tesla's were making the same sound.

I guess that's the heat pump?

Very interesting. I have a LR M3 on order to arrive late summer. I’m in AZ. Any concerns with these vehicles in very hot climates???
