Anyone provide any guidance or suggestions on how to get the exhaust piece to separate so I can install the plates? I tried the wood trick and its not working. Both sides are sealed solid...

I would get a hold of Hewitt and verify , but I don't think you have to put plates in . I did anyway , but mine came apart pretty easy. My kit didn't have plates and when I called them they said they weren't needed , but sent me some anyway if I wanted to block off , but said not needed.

Thanks, sent them an email. I thought both the new module and the plates needed to go together.

I have a 2010 Tundra 47k miles. Work from home so don’t drive it much. Started having this issue. I don’t get emissions test due to the low mileage I drive a year, so seems the bypass kit is the way to go. Now just have to find one.

@sylobeg thanks for the info. I did buy the kit but I also replaced my battery as the truck is 12 years old and has never been replaced. All the indicator lights have not come back on. I will hold onto the kit just in case it is needed.

Install the bypass you don’t need the blocking plates if the valve isn’t stuck open
Install kit to prevent valves or pumps from operating (malfunctioning)

Secondary Air Injection System Bypass Kit
@osidepunker as Paul mentioned above our recommended solution is the Gen 2 Bypass Kit. It is our most comprehensive bypass kit that will address both mechanical and electrical SAIS fault codes. The only codes it would not address is any related to damaged pressures sensor. If you had a damaged pressure sensor then a kit addon would be required. That said, the Gen 2 Bypass Kit and two Pressure Sensor addon would be a full delete kit of the SAIS. The only thing we require in good working condition after installation of the full delete kit is the Vehicle’s Factory Wiring and ECM. I have provided some additional thread resources below.

I just recently replaced the Bank 1 secondary air injection pump on my 2013 4.6l v8 Tundra, this is about 1 year after replacing the bank 2 pump. I've had the truck about 10 years and have approx 83,000 miles on it. I'm thoroughly disappointed to have to replace a part that seems to basically be disposable, and that I am willing to bet, Toyota built to last just past 100,000 miles. The snorkel air inlet on mine appears to have been redesigned from the prior models to hinder entry of water into the snorkel intake. But after taking the old pump off and some inspection of it, I found that the motor that powers the air pump is a brushed motor. With two brushes, one on either side of the motor/commutator, and one of those completely worn out. I hooked up the pump to a power source and it did not operate. I'm sure if the brushes were replaceable, that the motor would continue to operate. None of this would be a big deal if it weren't a repair that cost thousands of dollars to replace. To replace a relatively simple and low cost part. It took longer to remove/replace the fender skirt than anything else. Toyota really should be stepping up to cover this required-for-emissions-only system.

@apfireman41 It is very disappointing especially as you mentioned for a system that has very little impact on actual emissions. The SAIS only runs for 30 - 90 seconds after a cold start (engine sitting 7 hours or longer) then shuts off once the Cats get up to operating temperature. What makes it worse is even if you do replace it, it is very likely to fail again in the future.

If mine ever fails, it's a bypass kit for me.

About 6 or 7yrs ago I put this bypass kit on my 05 Tundra 4.7. I don't remember the code it threw but this kit took care of it just as they advertised.
Couple weeks back my cat started to rattle & I figured my left side outer shell is finally loose, I lost my right side shell yrs ago after screws rusted off on it too.
Well I got time to inspect the rattle today & discovered my left drivers side cat is all white. So its not the cover, its definitely been or is getting too hot and its toast. The manifold itself looks perfectly normal, just my left cat & part of my crossover pipe are white. Right passenger side cat looks fine too, its not white.
Ive not pulled plugs yet, but if plugs look fine its just a bad cat here right? Owned 200+ cars in 50yrs driving Ive seen 2 cats actually fail. Both were GMs & clogged due to owners putting around about 30mph. One owner was a 92 yr old lady (76 Omega), the other was a dizzy blond chic, had 51k miles on her 1985 Fire Bird 6cyl. Bird wouldn't even move it was so clogged it just bogged when floored. I pounded her cat real hard then drove it to a muffler shop...lmao
    Q) What else causes this on Tundra?
    Thanks

You'd pretty much have to have check engine codes that would go with a catalytic converter that messed up. There should be codes for lean/rich operating conditions, a P0420, etc. You'd go off what the codes and live data tell you to figure out what might be going on.

Yeah it should if bad for sure. My scan tool does emissions check & showed alls well too, no codes, no light!
Looking again I think the whites from condensation. My health is failing so she's sit a lot more than ever the last 3yrs. More short trips for sure.
I sprayed them clean now so I can see if it returns soon. 400k miles & I never cleaned or replaced them once. I could wonder how much is left inside them, naawwt. lol
May be platinum dust bunnies running out the seems blowing all around them for yrs idk?
Oh yeah' my sheild is what was rattling btw. I grabbed it to shake it hard yesterday & it spun some, then it would rattle easily. I didnt think it was loose at all the other day.
I think we'z all good, wallets even hidden from wife again & everything...lol
    Thanks, I appreciate it!
