Cargo Light w/ Tailgate Down

Seems my cargo light remains on whenever the tailgate is down. The other day my tailgate was down for half an hour or so and the cargo light remained on. Seems the rocker switch has either on, off, or door. Mine is set to door.

Is the light supposed to remain on the whole time the tailgate is down?

 

Mine is the same. I thought there may have been a timer cut out for it to turn off like the interior lights when you exit. I haven't checked if you leave the regular doors open for 1/2 hr or so do the interior lights stay on too?

 

Yep, just seems like the cargo light would not remain on indefinitely.

 

There is a time out after probably 30min or so. I camped in the bed about a week ago and left the tailgate down and the light would turn back on any time I opened a door to grab something, or closed and reopened the tailgate. I believe because the tailgate locks and has proximity sensors to unlock with the smart key, like the doors, the vehicle treats the tailgate the same as the doors.

It does EVENTUALLY turn off. I was wondering if I can change the timer with TechStream, but haven't been able to get my cable to connect yet.

 

Thanks for the valuable input. Maybe LEDs are different, but 30mins seems like a long drain on the battery, especially as the battery ages.

 

The manual says it times out after 20 minutes.

I’ve wondered this myself. Does seem to turn off eventually. I don’t think I’d worry about battery drain as it’s likely an LED. I find it more annoying as I’ll often have our tailgate down when camping.

 

True, but then you have no cargo light when the doors are open.
