Same with my Frontier Crew Cab. Room for kids is ok in back but not adults for sure.

My daughter has a last gen Desert Runner. She likes it but has been eyeing the new ones.
I told her to wait for the used market to crash. If the gas prices keep going up after it does she can get a Tundra.

I rarely chime on threads like this, but I will say having children as well… The larger vehicle is fantastic. I have had three tundras, one of every generation so far (except a 22) and would not trade the lack of down time in a shop or reliability for what it costs to fill the tank.

You stated you live on an island. Have you consider biking places? For me work is not far, but only accessible from major highways. So that is not an option.

However we do have a dual child bike trailer. I’ll use it to spin a kid to their friend’s house a few miles away. Or fold the seat down and use it to bring the groceries or beer home rather then drive two miles each way.

Consider your needs and a decision off of that.
Could I live without a truck, probably yes.
Would my family never enjoy a road trip again or getting somewhere in a foot of snow, definitely yes.
    Good luck

There is a new Nissan Versa EV car but a wait list. Prolly costs a lot more than the Leaf but living on an island with heavy traffic and a full size truck can be a challenge. Especially with gas cost nowadays. Tough choice for the OP with family....

I'd keep the Tundra over the Runner only because it has more space and a usable truck bed and get a Camry hybrid. They seem really nice, and everyone I know who has one loves them.

I was a little surprised that after doing the math, what you'll save going to a Tacoma would just not be worth it to me at all. I've had waaaay too many vehicles in my life, only selling, buying, trading when I reached a point where the current vehicle just didn't make me happy while I was driving it, washing it, modding it. If I'm happy with those three, gas prices, paying the loan each month wasn't an issue at all. Tough to put a price on your feeling when you're driving something you really like. I don't stay in something very long if it doesn't put a smile on my face often. Just my $.02

No hates. I’ve actually looked at the Ridgeline and the F150’s. I think most of us can agree that as soon as you get rid of your tundra you’ll be regretting it. The money you save on repair costs will probably outweigh the small increase in gas prices we are getting hit with at the pump.

They don't make the access cab manual 4banger anymore if that's what you're referring to. The trd sport access cab 6 speed gets worse mpg than the auto I believe.

Whatever you do, do not buy a Honda. imho Honda does not have the pedege in making heavy duty vehicles. (supposed suv's or truck's (Ridgeline)) they just don't have the experience in that. With good truck/suv you need heavy duty suspension, transmission, frame, etc. And also very important is the years of know how to make reliable vehicles.

The last time Honda did a truck the transmission was a big problem. That being said their suv's sucked too with bad transmission's. It's better to over engineering your equipment the way that Toyota does it than Hondas philosophy than engineering for just enough to pass as a heavy duty vehicle.

Agreed. The bed is actually not a separate bed it’s a fake out. It’s only a little seam that they make look like a separate part. It’s really like a Honda pilot with the back cut off. All one piece.

I’d love a pilot or Ridgeline but not until they fix the front seat arm rest / no raised center console atrocity

Read an article today that toyota is considering a maverick competitor . If they do I'm all on that. I'd keep my tundra as its paid off but I'd jump on a stripped down base maverick competitor from toyota as a commuter. Especially reg cab long bed

I would seriously consider getting rid of my Tundra if I had a long commute (~400-500 miles/week), but I’m nowhere near that so it doesn’t make enough of an impact to me
