Does anyone have a good shop they recommend to install rock sliders and a fuel tank skid plate? The place I called seemed pretty high in price. $700 give or take. Very good ratings, though. But, seems pricey to me.

Wow. That's pricey alright. Did they say how many hours of labor in that quote? Most auto shops have a posted hourly rate for customers to see.

To give you a little perspective, it took me about a 90 minutes to install my rock sliders and about 30 minutes to install my fuel tank skid.

If I were to charge you a total of $700 for the install, that works out to $350 per hour of labor, not including additional materials or sales tax.

    Edited to add:

My bad though, going back to your question, I don't have any input for a Tucson shop for install.

What rock sliders and fuel tank skids are you installing?

If it's all bolt on then that's way too much. If the sliders are weld on then I can see that price being about right. Still a little high though.

He said 4 hours for sliders, about 2-2.5 for skid. I believe I heard $125 per hour.

Bolting on, not welding. They are both Victory 4X4 products. I know there is drilling required for the sliders at least.

If bolt on, do it yourself. For drilling, get new drill bits to have on hand.

I used a few jackstands and a couple of bottle jacks to hold up the sliders while I bolted them in to place. Same thing with the fuel tank skid.

I’m not too far (in OV) if you want some supervision and maybe a hand when you get after it.

But I put a decent dent in the crappy stock step rail last night doing the start of the Charlou Gap. Now it matches the dent from Broken Arrow. Sooner or later I'm going to smash up something I don't want to smash.

I bent the shit out of mine and got away with it but was really worried about fucking up the body where the bolts go in. I bet I know right where you are talking about - a little past the wash crossing on a downhill - driver’s side?

No, passengers side. I was actually coming back when I did it. It would have been not to far from the last hill coming back out.

We didn't even get all the way to the wash. We went down the big hill just before the wash. Wife wanted to go back because the sun was setting. I haven't been up the gap in a truck in about 20 years. But, I grew up right there, and it was almost a daily occurrence on dirt bikes.

I was out in the Tundra on a rescue mission right after Christmas then took the side by side out in January to break it in. Beautiful area and remote AF.

Yeah, it's amazing up there. Going all the way through to Oracle is really beautiful. I haven't done that, though, probably 25 years, give or take. I got tired of getting beat up on stiff motocross suspension. Just going to the top was about all I could handle.
