I've got an off grid property and recently decided to bite the bullet and jump into the overlanding/camping portable power station/w solar panel craze going on. My first forey is with a small 240Wh Jackery with Rockpals 60W Watt panels. I'll cut and paste my recent tests that I have done already from another one of my threads soon. Please include "watt" you are using your power station for. Example....fridges, lights, power tools, whatever. There are portable power stations out there not just for off grid or overlanding that will power many things in your house for quite some time if it's still there after a hurricane, flood, earthquake, etc. Go for it. Time for this thread.

"Watt" brands to you prefer and why? Post any trials or actual experiences that you may have had or planning for. The possibilities are endless as long as you have sun or other source to charge your power station. I'm assuming this thread is in the right place. Mods.....move it if needed....

I have a goal zero 1250. it does everything I need it to do. I camp a lot and boondock when I can. I have it hooked up to another AMG battery the same size. Sorry dont know how many watts I pull. Depending on your finances, they have some $5k ones that Im sure are bad ass.

I would buy another if i had a use for it.

Thanks for the 1st reply! Goal Zero is highly recommended. It's all about your needs. Do you have any pics of your setup when out camping? Do you use a solar panel or plan to?

For those of you considering the portable power station route.....

xxx Watt Hour rating of the power station *85/total max Watt load that will be drawing off it will give you approximate max power draw time under max constant load calc'd.

I also bought the solar panels, but havent used them. I bought 2 honda generators that I bring with me when I need to run heaters at deer camp. the goal zero will run a 750w heater for a little more than 1 night on super low.

I use a Jackery 500 with their brand 100 watt panel. It is great for weekends / weeks camping or as backup then power goes out. I’d love to get a 2000 and more panels to be able to run fridges/freezers during an extended outage.

Jackery 880 renergy 100w flexible panel to run my Iceco vl45. works great. also have a HF thunderbolt 100w foldable panel it also works great for me. mounted the flexable panel to my Alpha II RTT. have not dropped below 70% on the Jackery. did a long term kill it test in the jackery running the ICECO on eco mode set to 30 degrees filled with beer and water without charge cycles. lasted over 3 days before it got down to 6% kept the fridge at temp the entire time. took about 6 hours to recharge the jackery with the thunderbolt in direct sunlight.

Super nice setup. No shortcuts going on there! Are the solar panels Goal Zero and what wattage? I don't expect you to know now, but check when you get chance. The more info we get here the better!

Great topic! I’ve been trying to find one but way too many brands and have no idea what to get.
im just in need of smaller one that can charge phones/tablets that I can take to the beach or lake. If it holds power for a couple days that would be great also

I run the cable thru the plastic bed wall gromets to the jackery then connect the ICECO to the jackery. When offroading or driving around I just put the Jackery in an old milk crate and use a ratchet strap to secure the milk crate.

update: I keep about 2 feet of slack cable between the jackery and the panel so the tent can open without stressing the cable.. I learned the hard way... pulled a pin in the connector but it was an easy fix

My little 240Wh Jackery can do that. You mentioned lake and beach= SUN.....get a 60W solar panel to keep it pass thru charged. You may not need a solar panel but what the heck. Kuul tech.

    Current setup is:
    • 2 x 100w hard panels (on top of toolbox and on top of rack). Hard panels supposedly last longer than flexible. We’ll see.
    • 50ah LifePO4 battery in toolbox
    • Renogy charge controller
    • Iceco fridge in bed running all day every day
    Future setup is:
    • Add second 50ah battery from sitting on garage shelf and into toolbox
    • Wire up 1200w inverter sitting on garage shelf
    • Run power wire from starting battery to aux battery to allow for aux battery charging while driving and also charge starting battery from solar panels once aux battery is full. Guess where the wire is sitting?
    • Add Starlink for RVs and connect into aux battery

Nice! The Renogy's pop up a lot during my research. Renogy's are great when flexibility is not an issue. High quality panel!

Yeah, they go on sale occasionally for ridiculously cheap. I picked up both of mine for $65 each. Not bad when looking at it at in terms of $/watt

Can't beat that at all. Hard to beat a solid panel cost wise...
