Been thinking about installing American racing long tube headers and a full exhaust from @dirtydeeds on my 2018 SR5. Removing the RH stock manifold looks to be a real PITA, especially without a lift. Before I get into it, is all this really necessary? Especially draining coolant, removing alternator, and steering shaft, etc. I've read other install guides that don't mention any of this, but Toyota repair manual says otherwise.

Thanks for your reply! I did read your post a few weeks ago but don’t recall you including all of the additional steps that Toyota recommends. Maybe I need to read your post and all comments again in more detail.

Draining coolant, disconnecting steering and removing alternator isn't necessary. Jack up and put on jack stands, take wheels off, remove fender mud guards for easier access the manifold studs/nuts. Loosen exhaust connections, remove mid-pipe, disconnect stock manifolds and remove. Installation is reverse, I found removing the heat shield on the starter helped squeeze the passenger header into place, driver's side was easier.

It's pretty straight forward in all honesty. Besides moving the dip stick around its all exhaust components your working with. Pre soak them bolts

I'm about to do my JBA's on my 06 next week too here. I may do a review there too.

more than I can list here
You don’t have to remove all thst stuff. Worse part is not being able to reach some bolts and having to disconnect driveshaft. Otherwise it’s literally remove and replace. And long tubes are easier than shorties.
