When my phone is connected I like to use the view that has the map on half the screen with the other half having favorite destinations, what’s playing on audio and calendar events.

however, the what’s playing audio isn’t what’s actually playing on the truck. I use SiriusXM through the truck to listen, but the audio part of the CarPlay screen is showing a podcast that I last listened to on the phone and not the truck XM.

anyone have a way to share screen space between CarPlay for some things but the “Toyota Audio” for others?

Not only do I not see what’s actually playing but changing the channel means multiple steps to get to the Toyota app then to audio then to XM, just way to cumbersome.

No way to do what you’re describing as far as I’m aware. I have heard some criticism that the native Toyota app doesn’t really allow effective split screen, which is irritating.

How about downloading the Sirius XM app on your phone and using that to listen so it displays properly? Not sure if there’s a way to “share” the subscription you’re already paying for with your phone app, but that could be worth checking out.

This is the answer until Toyota improves the screen management, which I don't see happening.

I’ve thought about running XM off the app, Ute I have a thicker case and a pop socket so the wireless charger doesn’t work, so I’d have to keep plugging it in. Doable, but a pain.

Use the screen between the gauges to look at what’s playing on the radio. Carplay and non-phone audio functions don’t work well together. For example, if you’re running nav on carplay and listening to the radio, carplay will completely pause all audio to give directions. Whereas, if you’re listening to Apple music or Spotify, carplay will lower the volume on the music and give the directions superimposed over the music.

This is not a Toyota issue. As far as I know, no auto manufacturer can run Apple's CarPlay on half the screen and sirius on the other half. Using the Sirius app on your phone, and accessing that through CarPlay is the answer. You can get CarPlay to work using bluetooth, but you can't access the Sirius app on your phone? That sounds odd. I use Pandora to listen in my Tundra, and my bluetooth works fine. My phone even charges well using the Toyota Qi charger and an Aduro shell case with built in kickstand.

So while I don't think anything will change (at least not for a couple years, and maybe not on current production models) but Apple showed today their next generation of apple carplay where they are integrating direct control of car functions and a much deeper level of integration.

Hopefully Toyota takes advantage of that.

But hopefully not in the way I fear which is the removal of physical controls.
