Transmission doesn’t freewheel when going down hills?

I’ve had my 2020 Tundra since new. Second one and I love it.
The only thing I think is odd is when I am coasting down a hill, the transmission stays engaged and doesn’t allow me to more or less coast down the hill. Other vehicles seem to go into neutral as you go down a hill. This truck seems to want to stop itself.
Is this common to all Tundras?
    Thanks

Yes, totally normal. It's there by design to act as an "engine brake" to ease brake wear. I've noticed if you very slightly press the gas pedal while you're going downhill, it doesn't engage and acts like it's coasting. Give it a try.

Yep. My 21 does the same thing. It seems to downshift just as my wife takes a sip of coffee.

If you have a scangauge/ultragauge you can see when it does a deceleration fuel cutoff. That's when it really slows down. If you want it to coast farther, usually just a light touch and release of the throttle will cancel the fuel cut

I've been known to manually drop it down a gear or 2 to slow before ever touching the brake pedal..

Although the automatic semis I drive at work do actually go into a netural/coast mode when going downhill.
