    2010 tundra, 4.6 v8, rwd, d.cab, long bed, 128k mi, stock(werk pkg), 87gas(10% eth), blue or grey. Bluegrey.(color)

I'm trying to get 23mpg avg, but no matter what I do, it's always 22.8, 22.2, 22.6. The only thing that I could do, which is rather drastic, is to stop warming up the engine, but I've been doing it all my life and definitely don't want to stop.

Any tips or pointers? Thank you.

While going up hill blow on the windshield. If you have a passenger have them blow on it also. :yay:

Air your tires up more, assuming they're not maxed out already.

If you're "warming up" the engine by idling it, don't. Just drive easy until you're close to normal operating temp. It's actually better for the engine than idling to warm it up. It warms up faster and you won't cause any more wear, in fact, if anything, will cause less wear. So just start it up, sit for 10-15 seconds, put 'er in gear and go easy.

Pop the tranny into neutral and coast.

What other like hacks can you use tonight?

That'd probably burn more fuel, when you let off the gas the engine usually stops injecting fuel and tries to coast, if it's in neutral it'll have to keep itself running since it won't be engaged with the transmission anymore.

And a good team of oxen to pull the truck around.

Seriously though, the numbers you’re getting are already in the class of “too good to be true.” More is never enough, if you reach 23 you’ll just want 24.

@Booney , newton's law about action-reaction says it will be futile if I'm blowing on it from inside my own vehicle. I'll need a sign that says "blow at me" from fellow passing cars; not someone already riding in the vehicle.

@snivilous , I'm at 35psi front and back. Don't want to air them higher because I hit potholes often. (Wandering eyes, lack of attention). Tires are regular highway ones.

@Ericsopa , thank you friend. I only warm up a little bit; about 5 mins. If the engine just started up and I go, even easy - everything is cold(relatively speaking) and hot inside cams, uneven expansion causes increased wear. (Sorry if that doesn't make a lot of sense. English is my second language)

@Tundra234 , please elaborate? Isn't that what I typed in OP?

@TundraMcGov. , thank you, see @snivilous next post.

@Roborob70 , I did; sort of. My rear seat is in the shed, but I do haul a microwave and some other tools often.

Thank you, all! I do realize it is good enough, but this magnesium 23mpg is bugging me a little. I'm so close, yet so far away. This time I was doing work with mostly highway driving and I was really 'genteling' it. As I was pulling into the gas station, I'm thinking: "well, surely this time is extra special!" As I filled up, got my receipt, punched in the numbers into calculator, and...to my demise, 22.2mpg.

Please don't get me wrong, I understand this is good mileage, but it's like a hobby to me. How much i can squeeze out of her.:) perhaps the culprit is, this time I did another squirt into her when she was full. It was about half a dollar worth, but I am not sure if it would have tipped the scales towards 23, with gas being 3.95, it was likely less than a cup worth.

There is one other thing I could do. Drop the spare? It's a full size tire under her behind, but the constant thought of me needing it at the most wrong moment makes me hesitant to leave that 'dead' weight at home.

    Ps- you all get likes!

Edit: @landphil , if you drove with me, you'd be upset how slow I go. 54avg, down to 50 uphill, no more than 58(okay, 60) downhill.

@JLS in WA , road conditions don't always allow it.

Your English is fine. You're still wrong about the 5 minute warm up. That's been disproven a number of times. Not at all helpful to modern engines.

But if it gives you more peace of mind, then keep on keepin' on. :)

Wow - you already have a unicorn. I drive pretty conservatively, like you, but I can't break 20 MPG on a tank of gas, and not very often even on single trips. BTW, Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)!

@Hbjeff , thank you, but it will impede function, since I have to get to unconventional places at times.

@LarryDangerfield , thank you, but I use my rear bed often to haul materials and trash. I do like the looks though! I had to google air dam, and someone said it won't do much unless you go over 80. Since my target speeds are in 50s range, it will be more for looks, rather than for actual aerodynamic benefit.

@Ericsopa , thank you for compliment and clarification on engine warm-up. I was under the impression that new engine or not, aluminum behaves the same.

@Bakershack , thank you. Motor and the rest of the metal is all default. I do use synthetic 0w-20 oil; perhaps that helps some. I've noticed, most of the fuel economy comes from driving manners. If I drive like an idiot, mileage does suffer. Gas being over 4 dollars a gallon gives a friendly nudge to take it easy. :)

    @RoadtripJim , thank you.
    @Booney , thank you.

I'm in s.carolina; home to squatted trucks and mopeds.

You are getting over 22mpg. I wouldn’t worry about that extra 0.2 - 0.8 mpg lol…. This is the best that I get when cruising at highway speeds and I am super grateful to get this while on 33s.

    Pretty things
I think the only way I see over 20mpg in the Tundra is by driving off a cliff... I assume it's not worth the savings in fuel.

In fact, at this point, any changes will probably be too expensive to justify the minimal gains you garner.

...wonder if you can still find Z-max

That's great mileage, congratulations! I'd just be happy with that.

Just to get the magic number, but don't keep doing it, you'll hate driving...a/c off to keep drag on engine down, windows up to keep aerodynamics, and heat on full blast to help with engine temps. I read about someone doing that, like 30-40 years ago, and won a gas mileage contest..she talked about how miserable it was, but she won the car they were driving in the contest!

If I drive mild, 55-60 max, easy does it, I can get juuuuust over 20, and I'm ecstatic...2020 5.7l.

When I had my 21 TRD Sport, I average 17.2 mpg for every gallon pumped into the tank. I was happy. Sometimes that lying dash computer would indicate about 21 mpg for a just completed trip. But, I easily managed to get over 38 mpg when I traded for a 2022 CR-V turbo. Now, I did not make the trade because of MPG, because gas was only $2.19 when I made the trade, but wow, as much as I miss cruising down the highway in that truck, sure glad we made the trade. Full disclosure I only bought the truck because I wanted the truck, not because I needed the truck at all. Highway cruising was great, everything else was just an effort that I just did not want to endure anymore. Shape, weight, engine, gearing, use...there is just nothing efficient about a Tundra.
