I should add, I'm the original owner. I had different priorities in 2005, so yeah, lol.

Lord I Pray not. I recently got a Stated Value Policy with my Insurance Company. I'm sure CA drivers are as crazy as those here in S Fl. So the investment risks abound.

I don't know if they are crazy or just brain dead. In a 2-3 months time, I was rear-ended twice. One was a no brake text-er, the other was getting a handy or better at 0530 am. Must have been a good party.

Painful online shopping experience, though. Took me way too long to find just the front and rear 5100s separately for 1GT. I can't seem to find any kits except one from Icon (IIRC) for $1,700.

I guess I should not comment on the 5100s because my experience with them is on a 4R. I find them very soft. Like a Cadillac truck. Like smooth. Like, oh, bump. It's nothing like my Tundra. Tundra says: hit harder you sissy bitch. The tundra does not have 5100s.

I got them unloaded and used the OEM springs, I set them top perch. I don't know that much about them other than they work great on that truck, but it's a street queen.

I haven't asked but my guess (expectation) is the shop I'm using has had them (Fox) off two or three times to get it right. Humble Pie Cooking?

I have complete confidence in the shop I'm using

@shifty` another thing to consider is there's no sense paying the premium for 5100s with the 2885s because you pretty much lose the adjustability.

Even after 20k it wasn't the easiest to compress them for a stock height shock with a wall mounted compressor. I can't see any way you'd be able to get more than maybe one notch higher.

Damn. That's a lot of compression although I would of compressed it as close to the hat as possible to make it easier to get off.

Nah, kits are great time/hassle savers. You get 70-90% of what you need in one shot, often with a margin of discount, and with the money saved you can order other little odds and ends to suit your taste, or ask the vendor to sub stuff.

I hope y'all realize, it's stuff like this that has made decision-making pure hell. One guy says its too stiff. Other guy says too soft. Neither guy installed on Tundra. OR they installed on Tundra and one was DC 2WD other was RCLB 4WD, two wildly different animals. :D

(I'm not mad, I'm just observatin')

Exactly. Been there, done that, plenty of times, but with lowered sport suspensions which, frankly, are just as bad if not worse. $100-200 to forego the time, hassle, and risk of lost teeth? Sign me up. It's one less thing to spend 30-60 minutes on when I could be wrenching.

Come again? Are you saying this because the 2885 is taller spring? If so, that's the intent, run the taller 2885 spring so I can use the lower notch on the 5100 and still get extra lift (hopefully) without compromising ride quality.

Seems like most of the people bitching about 5100s being stiffer than hell are running 3rd notch. Folks I see raving or saying they're soft/comfortable are either 1st or 2nd notch. But problem I just pointed out w/Bob and Erik applies here: Less than 10% of input is coming from actual AC 1GT drivers.

Yeah, I have no intent to go to 3rd notch on 5100. I hope you know I totally respect your input and everyone else's, I'm open to suggestions on other kits setups, I'm all ears.

Just need to fit a few parameters -- Under $2500 (±20%) for shocks/springs/accessories/tires. No lift so radical I need to re-boot, shim driveline, nor replace uppers/lowers for a decent alignment that won't eat my tires. Something that maintains some ride quality b/c I'm honestly 90% pavement, 10% terrain due to life right now. Something that will allow no-rub on 275/70/17 or possibly even 285/70/17 on my stock wheels. I'm cool with up to1.5" Spidertrax spacers if needed to make that last bit happen.

Every time gas has gone up that has been correct, but this COVID era is a different animal. The market for everything has done the exact opposite of what should be considered normal. Gas has been high long enough prices should've dropped already and they haven't. The other issue I've noticed is that all these dealers got used to paying insane prices to get used trucks on their lots. Now they don't want to adjust the price. A local dealer has a 04 4Runner for $10k and it's been sitting there for 3 months and he hasn't adjusted the price and I know the reason is he probably has $9k in it.

No judgement from me, mine never leaves the pavement unless you count the 1.5 mile dirt road I live on. I had them at the stock height and hitting anything larger than a dip in the road in my DC heard and felt like someone hitting the front with a sledge hammer. I'm sure the extra weight from the DC probably plays into that.

If I were starting over, I'd just grab the OME or Eibach 2.5" assemblies from Toytec and call it a day.

That's because everything is being intentionally inflated and manipulated right now to extract max profit. There's collusion across multiple industries to support it.

You have entities intentionally squeezing or withholding supply to create artificial shortages, from the lumber industry to freight industry, all to amplify prices and extract max profit. Anywhere someone can think to squeeze because they know it'll hurt, they find any reasonable-sounding excuse knowing most won't question it, and they can easily label anyone who does as {insert some label you loathe} and consumers will lambast them for being the actual problem and pay up (classic distraction/scapegoating). Now they've gotten a taste and seen people will buy it, it's game over.

I'm just glad both our vehicles are paid off. The nonsense dealerships have been doing the last 8-12 months, applying arbitrary $5k-20k "Market rate adjustments" on stickers, is complete nonsense. I really, truly hope FTC lays into any dealer that did it, it's legitimately price gouging.

Thanks - I'd been avoiding Toytec because of something I'd seen elsewhere with a kit they were selling breaking in half, I swear it wasn't limited to just one case also? But I'm drawing a blank on where it was. I just remember it was a front assembly, and it broke in half.

I know there is issues with the Tacoma shocks but that isn't limited to Toytec, something about spacers and breaking shocks because they bottom out before hitting the bump stops.

Nope, I didn't run spacers on top of my Shit-tecs. The only thing on my truck with their "brand" that hasn't experienced some type of failure is the diff drop.

Well, that's reassuring. I guess I'll scope out what they've got. I feel like it was the BOSS stuff I'd read problems about. I'm sure some (maybe all) issues were related to misuse or misinstallation.

I'm down for Eibach or even Elka. Not inseparably tied to Billys.

I don't have any qualms against using them as a vendor, but I would stay away from their branded products.

That's what I'm recalling. I vaguely remember in the last 2-3 years reading where some of their red-colored stuff just flat-out snapped in half, cracked, broke. I remember it being anodized product, not powdercoated or painted. I remember it was front. I recall at least one post complaining to MeMario publicly (or that person bought from him), and there were two or three posts similar circulating at that time, but I know Mario is cool and an A+ vendor.

This is all I remember though, and my search-fu isn't turning a lot up, but I'm seeing there's lots of catastrophic failures posted across Toyo forums out there, most of the failures I'm seeing out there were clear user install errors I don't think I'd have made. Basically failures to install properly, bottom-out cases, missing bushings, other mistakes. But I swear those aren't specifically what I nestled in the back of my brain these last couple of years.

I also know it's taboo to publicly share negative stuff about vendors, so if it was here, there's a chance it got removed and that's why I'm not finding it. But what I'd read in the past was enough to make me skip over them as a possibility.
