I wouldn't buy it just for having a K&N filter sticker on it.
God knows how well, or how badly, that filter was maintained...:eek2:

    2006 it is...

Where’s the paperwork for both trucks proving the maintenance?

    Talk is cheap

paperwork that can be verified proves everything

Hmm gonna agree with @DarkMint. That does not look like a new engine at all. In fact, it just looks like the original engine but super dirty. Again, no expert here, but that does not look new.

engine looks like a used unit if it was in fact replaced. So it is either a pull a part engine or perhaps they took apart and fixed the old. Unsure of why they would not clean it when apart, another flag. Id pass on this one and get the 06.

    Here’s a thought worth considering

try and negotiate down on the lower mileage truck due to a $1,300 t belt job coming up soon?
    Never hurts to ask!

Thanks fellas! I really appreciate all of your input and advice. I have decided to move forward with the 06 Tundra. The 05 with the "new" engine had too many risks involved and just simply didn't feel right. You all confirmed what my gut was telling me. Appreciate it!!

I tried talking him down more...and didn't budge. He's already come down 2K from his original asking price. I"m basically getting it at just over KBB value which I am okay with in today's market.

If you ever have future issues or questions about the truck the forum is actually a super good place for it just FYI. They've helped me solve pretty much any issue I've had with mine since owning it.

'06 is the obvious choice here. As others have said, too many red flags with the '05

"Whole kit" at the dealer is what I though included tensioner pulley and idler pulley but turned out that was $300 USD more when I asked about it.

I got my T belt done for 500 ish. And they wanted another 1500 to do the water pump and tensioner. So I had Jason do those. Effectively doubling the work. Doesn’t make a ton of sense. But at least the dealer had to crack the bolts the first time so…

No the mechanic that did my work used all Denso parts if I'm not mistaken, and after 20k miles on the new timing belt and such everything runs perfectly. Also, as an added plus the mechanic had his own 89' Pickup that was in mint condition, so I trusted him

I guess that I am just picky about my mechanic work. A timing job is not hard on a 06 DC. I would not let anyone do it for me..

I watched many videos on how to do mine, but realized if I messed it up my motor would be shot so didn't wanna take the risk. Wish I was as brave as you

Hmmm okay, next time I need to replace the belt and water pump I'll definitely let you and the entire forum know. It probably won't be for another few years, but I'll still be around.
