What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Hell yeah! I was a huge Volcom fan bitd. It was unusual not to have a stone sticker (or multiple) somewhere on everything I rode or drove, and random stuff around the house. Hadn't thought about the brand for quite a few years, then had to buy decks for the kids when they wanted to learn how to skate and was sad I couldn't find any. Just clothing.

If you do go that route, only polish but don't seal in any way, expect to need to re-buff every couple to few months.

Anodizing is a pretty painless process if there's a metal finishing place near you (EDIT: and Cali hasn't banned it yet). Usually on this coast, the places doing chroming are also setup with at least one anodize tank for alloy stuff. They may have the tools to strip the wheels (chemically), polish, and ano. But you may be in the same cost as a new set of wheels to have it done.

I think polished ano'd would look awesome on your truck, but I'm biased. Gunmetal you have is about as dark as I'd go on anything with darker paint like yours, and anthracite ("light gunmetal") is about as light as I'd go on mine.

I do love my stocks, same stocks you had on yours prior though. I have an appreciation for lipped wheels though, which is why I think I like yours. Overall the truck looks great though.

Speaking of spending money, my slush is finally ready for me to start working on suspension.

My search-fu is failing me. I swear I saw someone recommend recommended a vendor selling 5100s pre-loaded w/OME, Dobinsons, maybe a few other spring options, buttoned up and ready to install. for the life of me I can't find the info. Anyone know who it was?

I'll probably get into analysis paralysis again trying to figure out whether to go with a taller spring w/bottom notch versus stock-size spring at 2nd notch, but ... If I don't even know where I'm buying and can't see options it's moot anyway eh?

Spoke to the shop today. Was told suspension adjustments are done. Still needs a re-alignment and one side needs a "steering stop" ??? to prevent a lockup. Is this unusual? It should be ready tomorrow so I'll have it for the long weekend.

 

I realized something this morning...My truck and my youngest daughter were born the same month/year. She turned 21 yesterday and asked if the truck was ready. Hmmm...I wonder if she thought it was going to be her birthday present?

He drop ships most things so he's out of the loop which causes frustrations when delays happen and he's unaware of them. Also some folks have hard a hard time getting responses to emails with questions. If you're having him put it together then less chance of that happening. I have bought stuff in from him and it was super easy. Toytec is also a great option. They are local in Denver so I'm a bit biased. They don't sell Dobinson stuff yet though. Also, I think wheelers will assemble them before they ship out.

 

Good info. I haven't managed to find anyone local in ATL but to be honest, I haven't looked. I prefer to do stuff on my own, so in-person shopping typically doesn't happen. I probably should do that, can't buy alignments online, so at minimum need to find a shop to align after level and tires. Dammit, that reminds me, still need to find a full-size OEM spare.

 

This is not something many will ever have to do but thought I'd share since others have asked in the past how to take glass holder out. This the way I chose.

Few weeks back I was opening sunglass holder on Overhead and it flopped down real quick instead of smooth. As I reached for lighter in holder there were two unknown items. There was a small piece of the light brown plastic broke off, where red arrow is pointing in pic. Also, a black plastic piece with gear splines. It's home I believed at the time was inside the red circle where it would slide in that channel. Yesterday I was at our Raceway Pik-a-part and they had a 04 Sequoia. To my surprise it had same Overhead Console as mine except it was light grey but bought it anyway along with an Anti-Glare rear view mirror for a total of $19. Cheap enough to let me see how to possibly fix mine.

The holder is held in place by a black plastic shell which is secured by four pins? that were melted at factory....my assumption.
In any case, I used my drill press and removed the light brown plastic which left about 1/2 stub posts. I was able to use them by using sheet metal screws that I cut off to proper length.
The sunglass holder was designed to open into 2 halves(push clips and slots in red circles) which gave me better access to gorilla glue the broke light brown piece and gear mechanism.
While I had the shell apart, chose to re-felt which I found at Wally World. Pretty sure that fix will still be there when the rest of the truck has hit the scrap heap.

It's wild to me how much different the AC/RC sunglass holder is from the DC. This is what the AC holder looks like. (ignore the circles)

With this, you have to gently but firmly push up on each leg with the door fully open to unseat it.

Our '20 Highlander has a similar setup to your DC with all the gears and crap. It wasn't working when we got it, I had to repair it at purchase, CarMax couldn't figure it out.

 

I've been searching for a truck bed bike rack system and came across this one: ULTIMATE TRUCK BIKE RACK | United States | RIDE88
It's on the pricey side but I like the different mounting options. Has anyone else found something similar?

It's no too terrible to do on your own and the spring compressor is cheaper than what they charge.

I used the O'reilly rentals last time and that was bad. I'm going to get this one

Pretty much addressed the noises and contact points learned and created at Red Canyon. Also finished the reinforcement welds for the shock towers. Figured out why I had some brake noise, I was hung up on the parking cable. Probably need shoes and drums now. Rack is tight - still needs some love for prime time, but it's not going anywhere. Cut a relief on my skid to allow better hitch pin access and using chains.

 

A buddy told me once that sometimes the hookers follow the blow. Might not need to pay for both. Maybe check the Memorial Day sales.

Here's some info about the hitch. The butt light is wired to a switchpro. The License plate LEDs are wired direct to the running lights.
