So I've decided to make this thread in the hopes that it can help someone. I owned a new to me 2010 regular cab for 4 years and I now own a new to me 2014 DC. Both trucks had drop-in bed liners when I bought them and I immediately took them out. They both had rusted underneath and had trapped dirt and debris. Crossmembers have minimal rust and it also only rusted through in one spot (front left corner, the lowest part of the bed). The 2nd gen was the same way, worst rust in the front left corner above the gas tank. Several spots had rust where the rust didn't penetrate very far down. There is no question that these drop-in liners will hold moisture and debris and potentially cause rust. If you live in a rust-prone climate, consider ditching the plastic liner. Just my 0.02. Really curious what everyone else has experienced with them.

Dont throw out the plastic liner, when the bed rusts out on it's own you can put back in to fix it.

We have known for a long time drop in plastic bed liners are not a good choice. Bed rugs are a good choice if you have a shell. Sorry you didn't know.

    Pretty things
I specifically look for a truck without a plastic liner when shopping. Not that I wouldn't buy the RIGHT truck that happened to have one, but it's much easier to inspect without one in the way.

Spray in bed liners are definitely the knees of the bees, and well worth the cost of a professional installation

O yeah they rust bad under the plastic Bedliner, but I still keep mine In because it’s so nice for mulch and dirt and unloading out heavy items.

also I keep mine In because I don’t like to look at rust and I’m to lazy to try and fix it. Lol

@Blue By U I did know that’s why I pulled the plastic out immediately and wire wheeled the whole bed, used body filler on the hole, and did a sprayliner. It was hard enough to find a decent Tundra for a good price, I wasn’t about to turn it down for one spot that rotted through. The rest of the truck has minimal rust too and that’s what’s really important. I’ve seen beds that are completely ruined from it. I bought mine just in time to save it  Cheers

@truckguy84 Fixing bed isn’t too hard depending on how many holes you have. It’s the wire wheeling that sucks but worth it especially if your crossmembers are starting to rust under the bed. Also very cheap fix maybe 20$

Toyota could’ve designed the bed liner better. Mine had two big holes in the liner where the tie down brackets are in each corner of the liner. Mulch, twigs, rain, dirt and what ever find it’s way in those big holes. It should’ve been designed where the tie down bracket bolts the formed liner corner to the bed. That would be stronger and all elements out from between liner and bed. I took my liner out and hurculined the bed. And also put a rubber matt in the bed.
