No, I believe VA taxes trade-ins.
I am not following your second point, can you clarify?

in my state the tax line is after the trade in amount.

    example only:

    MSRP : $60,000
    TRADE : $20,000
    SUB TOTAL : $40,000
    TAX @ 5% on $40,000 = $2000

    not on the $60,000

Got it. Yeah, VA doesn't do that. Cost of doing business. As you can see I didn't pay over MSRP nor did I have any additional add-ons. In my case, at my location, in this financial environment, I think I did pretty well.

I made my purchase at the dealer in early April, the TFS rate was 2.49%.
It appears its gone up. Does it vary from state to state or its a standard rate across the board?
I assume the pre-approval process is a go/no-go situation and rates don't vary based on credit score?

each regional port has different rates. ours was 2.49 in april but jumped to 2.75% in may.

if you goto toyota's website and click shopping tools and local specials, it will show the regional incentives by either model year or model.

here is the kansas city regional incentive for non hybrid tundra's for may

tfs has different tiers for rates based on your credit score, you have to look at the fine print of the offer and here is the catch

if i can get that rate of 2.75 @ 60, my payment will be about $3 cheaper than what i pay on my 2018 tundra. the msrp on the 2018 was 53k, the 2022 will come out to 64k msrp.

crazy how trade in affected the otd pricing overall in these times.

Wish my dealer would of had the same gratitude. I have been buying from there since 2002 and have purchased 17 vehicles in that time. They still wanted to charge me $4,000 markup and a $1,000 add on nitrogen package. I told them I'll never buy another vehicle there. So it's Toyota of Wichita Falls loss and not mine.

Just got a call from a friend. They have a Pro coming in and they are not going to get many of them,,,,,, this one is going to go for 19,9??.?? over MSRP which puts it at 90+. Also got wind of a dealer blowing one out their door for 30K mark up!!!!! We have done time warped into Bizarro World!! Ludicrous Speed!!!!!!

the first one above is suppose to be that Solar Octane in color.

I can’t deny the allure of being one of the first to have something new, but 20k+? There are so many options in that price range and they pro does not seem that special.

I used to sell cars for Toyota for years and am very familiar with their financing incentive structures. Toyota Financial DOES NOT CARE what your credit score is above 690 (Can be any one of the 3 bureaus to qualify) when talking about purchase financing incentives. That's much lower than most banks which can require 740+ for top tier rates. Leasing is a different story. If you don't have a 720+ you're gonna get hit hard with interest from a high money factor (APR equivalent used for leases).

I debated leasing the new Tundra since I leased my 2018 Tacoma. At the time I got my Taco for $1k under invoice on a VERY rare occasion where Toyota was running a promotional money factor (Toyota almost never runs lease specials on trucks) so I got into my truck for under $400 a month with $0 down. The Tundra, on the other hand, has TERRIBLE money factors right now. Like 6%+ APR equivalent. That pushed me into deciding on the 2.75% for 60 months. I bought 2 weeks ago and I don't expect rates and money factors to do anything but climb as the Fed continues to raise rates throughout this year. I don't think leasing a 3rd gen over purchasing makes sense for anyone at the moment. If you really need to get your payment down you can get a significantly better rate on an 84 month loan from a credit union than you can on a Tier1+ lease through TFS right now

So question, For your purchase from Sheehy Toyota, do you have this truck or is this on order? If you have it, how long did it take to get the truck after you placed your order? I ask cause I just placed an order for a 22 Limited at a dealership in the Tidewater area of Virginia.

Called a few dealers and only worked with the ones charging MSRP. 4 months of keeping on top of salesman I left deposit on one that was 90% of what I wanted. I got a 72 mo loan @ 2.9%...it was a limited after tax came in at 66500. Good luck.

Thanks. So you do have your truck or you are still waiting?

The dealership I am working with put in an allocation order for the Tundra that I am wanting and told me it could be 3 to 6 months before it arrives. They are supposed to keep me updated on the process but I definitely plan to call the salesman to check often. I have a signed buyers order for MSRP and gave them a refundable deposit. Now its a waiting game to see if they can provide what I want. I'm expecting to be told that they can't get the exact specifications so we will see what kind of compromise I end up with.

Picked it up 2 weeks ago. My dealership said that Toyota won't take orders...they can put in a suggestion for a build but basically they are allotted what Toyota decides to build for their region. All you can do is hope they get an allocation close to what you want.

Cool that you got one that was at least close to your specs. How long did it take from time you put in an allocation request?

My dealership told me they would put in the allocation order for my request and that once the request was in it depends on what Toyota chooses to do. Was told it was possible they would configure it to my specifications and also possible that once they see possible upcoming allocations that they could put a request to tweak an upcoming allocation to my specifications or close to it.

I waited 3 months to get something close enough I liked and another 5 weeks for them to build it. A couple came across that I denied bc of color.

I requested/ordered mine in December and was the top request for my dealer's allocation for 3 months before it finally came in May/

I could've got one a month or two earlier if I wasn't married to blue/lunar rock and getting the limited OR power package instead of the upgraded lights

I got an awful rate on my Tundra. I dont even want to say, but its under 6… barely. Ive never taken a loan so my auto credit wasnt amazing but still over 700. They ran rates for $15k down and $3k down, both had the same rate. Any idea why they were so bad? It even came back that my rate was below the average Toyota buyer but idk.

I get sick seeing all the sub 3% rates everyone gets but Im still happy to get a rate that beats current inflation. I can pay the truck off today but since I run a business vs working for a W2, I can make significantly more having the money in my company than in a truck, even with the shit rate. Any tips besides shopping around to refinance after 6 months?

Dealerships are allowed to mark up your interest rate and pocket the extra money from each payment. They call it "making rate" on a customer. I usually advise my friends to have a loan approval prior to going to sign. Tell the dealer youll take their financing if they can beat the terms. They also get a one time kickback from the bank for sending them your loan business so they will be motivated to try and find you a better rate, even if they arent able to mark it up. How much rate theyre allowed to make on you varies from state to state. Here in WA the max is 2%.

It's already happening. Lady on FB page carried negative equity into a fully optioned 4x4 platinum, financed with Toyota with a 640 credit score. She struggling with payments and is upside according to trade in values.

I don't think they're allowed to do it if you finance through Toyota correct? Only if you use one of their lenders?

Not for a refi, but for a pre-approval on the vehicle you are shopping for.

I don't remember if Toyota allows them to make rate on you or not
