What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

The parts pile is half the fun, judging you every time you pass, “install me” “hold me”

 

Hmm... I get what you’re saying, but not quite sure how to accomplish that with the current setup. The crossmember is welded to the frame horns, and the bumper itself is bolted to the crossmember with the nuts welded on. I think it’s pretty much set at this point. I am, however, wide open for ideas, because I can see how there’s not much room for flex under those quarter panels.

 

The other half of that is slowly going insane. I’ve been staring at a pile of Method boxes gathering dust for two months now and I’m about to crack. I feel like an 8-year-old waiting for Christmas.

Summer time is my busy time and it’s also hot AF out, but I had ordered a steering rack in like feb, and finally arrived in may. The stars aligned and I got it done this past weekend, now I have the old carcass staring at me every time I open the garage…..
I’ve also started putting long term parts at my moms house hahah

Side note, has anyone smelled spoiled anti seize? Holy moly!!!! I found a can in a mechanical room and opened it and had to walk out!

my (dads) old can of the silver stuff had dried out before it made it into my garage, but a little used motor oil every time i need it wakes it right up.

Oh thank the gods! One less stupid side in existence. I know I’m not the only one that thinks those beds are so incredibly ugly. Everytime I see one I think ‘wtf Toyota?!’ I’m not hating on stepsides, but that design is a F-. And those godawful taillights. Geezus. Anyways, congrats to you bud. Best thing you coulda done, and how lucky you were to find a paint matched bed in such great shape. Looks like a completely different truck. Stoked for you.

 

The Discount Tire guys found a large industrial type staple stuck in my tire which explains the slow pressure leak I've been noticing. Swapped it out for a cheap Pathfinder AT which should wear down at a faster rate than the 3 Hankooks remaining, and I'll swap them all out when the time comes.

Apparently they couldn't patch this due to the holes being too close together. Only 1 plug per patch allowed. So this was sucky and I'm out $230.

 

I'd like to hear/see more on those mirrors.

 

I'd have a black truck today were it not for it having a SS bed.

I found an '05 Limited AC with 102k miles at $13k about 5 weeks before my white tundra showed up. @Darkness would've been proud.

 

That was a wise choice. My mind would explode if I had to choose between a first gen SS bed or the new 3rd gen tundra. I think I'd probably decide to just ride a bike everywhere if those were my only choices.

 

I would do SS on a RC if it were possible to chop the frame shorter and mod the truck to accommodate. Like a lightening F150 sort of thing. Would have to lower it too. And then SC for sure.

 

Any updates? I've been eyeballin these brakes for awhile.

I'm one of the few who actually think they look cool. A shell definitely doesn't belong on a stepside but put a stepside bed on a 2wd, lowering kit, and you've got an awesome street cruiser that's just a bit different!

OH and make it a manual. Too cool.

 

Heres an update. I didn't realize the old filler panels supported the bumper support and the hood release is too long. Just zip tied it for now but everything else looks good. If i find a ivan stewart from bumper cover Ill convert to steel bumper but I like this look right now

 

What's up w/the Volcom van next door?

Truck looks damn awesome. If those wheels came in an OEM hyper silverish color, I'd consider adopting a similar shoe setup on my truck. I could get by with an inch or two less stance, but I feel like you're in the general ballpark of what I'd prefer to be looking like, just taller.

 

Sorry Fellas, should have posted an update. I don't have it back yet. I'm planning to call the shop tomorrow. Last word was they are doing some front suspension (Fox) adjustments and had to remove the coilovers to do so. Didn't want to be of a nag on them today. Besides, today's my youngest's 21st B-day so been a bit pre-occupied and wouldn't have had time to pick it up today anyway. I'll post an update tomorrow after I speak to the shop.

 

I actually really want to get the wheels stripped and polished. I saw a tacoma once with them and I love it. the suspension is alittle preloaded because its against the curb but I actually want to go a tiny bit higher. My passenger side is lower than driver because I never adjusted the coilovers when I put them in.

I actually work at Volcom so thats our runner Van.

Wanting a truck and getting a stepside is like wanting a motorcycle and getting a scooter. Sure, it’s technically a motorcycle, and does some motorcycle things, but it doesnt do all the motorcycle things.

 

They don't sell the BedRug for the 1st Gen's anymore... Are there any alternatives?
