Solo Stock Length LCA

I've got an 01 Sequoia with the older ball joints. If I bought the solo arms for the bigger ball joints and spindles from a newer sequoia or double cab, could I use the bigger ball joints? It'd be an extra $200 for the spindles (from a junkyard)

Is it worth it to upgrade the LBJ's?

 

I personally would just for the peace of mind having bigger ball joints.

I have a bunch of stock parts I could give away.

 

I've got squeaking that has to be in my Solo LCAs. I just dialed in the TC uppers. After looking into it, the bolt's on LCAs should not have to be loosened to allow for grease. The slotted mounting holes on the frame and the cam adjusters prevent an air tight seal. So, unlike TC UCA's, you should be able to pump grease in there without loosening anything and messing up your alignment, or deforming your bushings. I don't know why Solo didn't add zerk fittings to these. Anyway, I imagine I'll be adding my own zerks.

 

I just got a call from Solo. Apparently, they tell everyone and maybe it's in the directions (?) to use copper anti-seize ass a lubricant on installation. Basically, put it everywhere. I'm not sure how I missed that.

 

I will ask Jason about mine. Would be cool if you could drive mine for comparison.

I’m not sure it was in the directions. The thought of pulling my steering again to re-grease is a buzz-kill. I’ll probably tap those arms with zerks…even though they say no! Lol.

They are not greasable. Solo recommends Copper anti seize for grease. Apparently the owner has been running 4 years with no squeak. I did not use copper and mine were squeaking like shit after hard use. I zerked them to shut them up. That worked.

 

My OEM LCA bushings are worn down and have a tear in them. Thought about going OEM for a second but decided to get the Solo's instead for a few dollars more. Can't wait to put them on!!!

Yes. It is way easier before they are on the truck. However, I trust solo, and they made them non-greasable because they have so much faith in copper anti-seize. I'm going to put that to the test. I bought the big boy jar of CAS and I'm going to manually put it in my grease gun. And then run it in the uppers and the lowers. I did some research and although there are die hard use only what the manufacturer recommends, there are some race types that say CAS. If it's lame, I can push it back out with traditional bushing grease.

Too thick for most guns, didn't solve anything for me over time. My new approach is the cheapest Super lube in a 14 OZ and grease the shit out of stuff after a run. I don't remember this thread per se, but I have zerks or taped zreks everywhere. I grease it all like cleaning. And if your leafs have any droop, clean them at full droop and run some low tack or teflon or whatever you like. leaf packs are loud if they travel.

I think I'll buy a set of these Solo LCAs this Black Friday. Possibly some greasable cam bolts and the off-road cam tabs too. Otherwise I'll likely follow @alb1k and tap the UCAs with zerks

 

I'm so pissed I broke my rear end I'm considering long travel up front so I can fab a 2nd gen 10.5" into the rear. Or, I'll drive the new rear with a little less jerk and keep looking at the already built on the classifieds. Someone sell me a 9" or a 14 bolt at 67" WMS!!!!

 

I recall you bent an axle. Did you break more of the rear since then?

 

Man, the thought of being able to use bigger ball joints...and they look so good...I'm sold. Just need a few more hours of justifying lol.

I'm assuming we can use the stock cam bolts and don't need their upgrade kit?

 

You'll have to grab some spindles from an 04-06 to make the big ball joint fit. The bigger ball joints mounting area is wider and they use bigger bolts.
