Thanks… Yeah I think they will settle some too after a few trips with the trailer… I went with 2” of lift with a 1” Alcan shackles and 800#’s over stock..I suggest you get your loaded truck Wt at the scales before you order… My estimation of my crap was way off!…LOL…. I stayed with Alcan shackles for two reasons: first, fit.. some members have had noise issues and movement with other brands…IDK if it makes a diff.. so far so good.. And 2nd, space.. I have a 35” spare under there and its tight… pretty sure CB wouldn’t fit…. I think the one thing I’m most impressed with is the solid feel from the backend … gone is the mushy(axle wrap?) feeling I got on acceleration… Feels like I can chirp it now.. if I could afford the gas…

I am truly just kidding , I've been there before , love the ozarks, but not for me. As long as you're happy there , cheers. I will say the ASP is the most YOLO dept I've ever seen in my life. I think real world police gets like 90% of their content from them lol if I ever visit again I'm using turn signals, speed limit , complete stops. Hell I may even throw in a bat signal and a bicycle hand signs just to be safe.

You know you're on the doodoo train when your dashcam more closely resembles HUD video from a fighter jet .

Well guys , made my first unforced error of the bumper build today , and it's a big one. I was trying to get the winch mounted today and subsequently the bumper as well. I did not have help today. So I moved the bum0er last night to the front of the truck with help from my son. I put down a drop cloth set it down gently, went inside went to bed. Got up today and started man handling the bumper on to the floor jack so I could in theory raise it on my own , position it to some waiting jack stands and mount the bumper..... great plan right ????? Once I got it on the floor jack it slid. I had a drop cloth between jack and bumper, didn't matter. Huge gash in the paint. I lost it said some curse words and should have stopped. I didn't. It was like a bird flailing in tar. Tried to reposition it , slid again, same result. One more time so it wouldn't just be laying crazy in my driveway , and again.....gash. so now I have a great looking bumper, with some pretty nasty paint gashes and need some ideas on how to fix them. I should have known the decision to paint was going to come back and get me ..... it always does.......:censored::goingcrazy::goingcrazy::help::help::help::help::help:

Ugh, that sucks man. If I were you I’d get it mounted, then repaint on the truck, just mask off and cover the surrounding panels to prevent overspray. Those bumpers can be heavy as hell and the last thing you wanna do is have repeat damage during install

Thanks for all the info, it really helps me out.

So you ended up lifting the back end up a total of 3” by the sounds of it…

Out of curiosity why did you decide to get longer shackles if you where already getting a set of custom leaf springs made? Could you not just have gotten Alcan to make a set of spring that are 3” over stock height and stick with OEM size shackles?

Not that it really matters, but when you mentioned your estimated weight (for your stuff) was way off did you over or under estimate?

I was thinking of doing just that. It may be the only way that makes a whole lot of sense.

These are the only two I could get without moving it more. There's also gouges in the front section I highlighted. They look the same as far as depth

Totally underestimated…. Originally was thinking 250lb’s would be enough.. didn’t want to screw up the ride and over do it kind of thinking …. Alcan shackles are close to OEM in size.. I had Toytec shackles on the truck… so I stuck with Alcan’s to avoid compatibility issues.

Do you have any popping at all in the rear end? What torque specs did you use on everything?

You could probably sand it, mask everything off, and then spray it to blend it in.

Hahaha… I know they do… and I liked my Toytec shackles (red).. but they would have put my rear end up like 4.5” to 5”…. No… have no issues at all with my leafs.. and I make no claim to knowing wether or not Alcan shackles make a difference or not.. I just figured going his(Lews) shackles I would have more recourse if there was a problem…And they are almost identical to OEM… The rear shackles were torqued to 60 If remember right and they move freely with no binding… Only a week with them and haven’t towed with them so keeping my fingers crossed that nothin develops… And by the way… Thank you for all your posts over in the ‘Suspension’ section.. they helped a lot..

Others will offer some input too but I'm thinking like 800? You really are just sanding it enough to take the rough edges out before spraying. @BlueRibbon4x4 has alot of painting experience....maybe he can help.

Don’t move to Pennsytuckie, $4.76 per gallon which includes the $.58 per gallon you have to pay towards taxes. You would think “wow, these roads are really smooth in Pennsylvania” then you realized you crossed the Maryland line.

@Jbehredt is correct. The 220 to smooth out the rough edge from the gash, and 400 to get rid of the sanding scratches. 600 for smoothness. What paint did you use?

Ok. Sometimes that stuff can be a little rubbery when trying to sand it, like latex. You may have to let it cure for a while before it’s tough enough to sand.

Good to know. I may just go ahead and mount it then, and mask off and spray on the truck like someone suggested. At least that way I can start using it again and spray it when I have time.

Plus it will give me practice for when I have to do this again from banging into rocks lol
