What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I had a local builder tell me recently they are quoting $300/sq ft to build right now.

 

And that’s the reason we’re not gonna start building on the property we bought in Bradley county,Tn. We’re gonna go ahead and cut the driveway, clear the house spot/pole barn. We are gonna dig the basement though because we need the dirt to build driveway access.

we were hoping to be done with the 5th wheel (which we were using on the road for work), but we’ve decided to just move it on the property, and put it under a pole barn.

We have a spare 1/3 acre lot deep inside the city, in a single family neighborhood. Scored it at an hookup-level pricing in late 2019 after helping the family who owned it narrowly escape losing it after their crackhead kid forged the mom's signature to sell it.

Stupid part is back in 2019, after demo and clearing the lot, we were looking at maybe 25% ROI to split & sell, or a 70-90% gain to split & build. Right now we're at 35% to split & sell, maybe 45% to split & build. Add uncertainty of supplies to build with, and the risk of bubble bursting mid-build knowing it's an average 10-14mo completion ... at this point we're just going to subdivide, sell the lots, and put the money towards our retirement property.

 

Weve been shopping hard for something out of Portland the last year but rising interest rates and cost to build severely cut what I was willing to spend. We are now under contract on a 1920 farm house out in the middle of nowhere on 5 acres. Endless public lands within 10 minutes of us, an over-the- counter elk depredation season, 2 miles to "town" (175 people) and 3.6 to the boat ramp on a 60 mile long reservoir. Cant sell the PDX house and close there fast enough...

sure it works when the bed is empty, but My liner doesnt drain, so… everything would get soaked if i dont flex seal the bottom 2” or so.

need a petcock so i can catch the rainwater for cleaning dog bowls.

i even have room for a patio.


it’d be super flappy with a breeze, i’ll try to smooth the sides tomorrow after washing the truck. If i split the sticks i could flat pack with the blankets, sleeping bag, and dog bed within minutes. Maybe a 2 peice wood floor i could take out and set on top if i need to get to highway speed.

 

Put in a call to order my body mount hardware for tomorrow pickup nearby. Had to call around to 4 different dealers to confirm part numbers. Due to multiple part numbers for the cushion (isolator), bolt and nut I had to confirm what the parts counter was stating was in fact correct which conflicted with what I saw online. Hopefully, it'll be correct or another day and $12 extra in parts wasted along with $9 in gas.

Need to cut into that floor jack puck I have so I can handle picking up the left back corner of the cab with the running boards in the way. That should be fun. I figure if I get a buddy to hold down the top nut of the mount with a breaker bar and while I put the impact to the bottom nut. Either it will come free or I'll snap the bolt in half so I can put the new bolt in temporarily and examine the damage later.

 

Why not just get a 2x4 or 4x4, unbolt the front, and jack up that entire side a couple inches with the 2x/4x under the cab, parallel to the framerail?

 

Isn't the front engine bay surround part of the cab area? That's two additional mounts where the center bolt probably has to be replaced if it won't come free. I'd more inclined to take the running board off before I do that although those bolts look seized as well.

I need to move somewhere where the word "brine" is something only used in the preparation of meat and not asphalt. lol

 

I just put in an order at General Springs for some 4/1 heavy duty leaf springs and U bolts for Olaf. So, it looks like I have a fun Saturday ahead of me lying on my garage floor.....

 

Move south. We use brine on both meat and vegetables, and they both taste good as hell!

No shortage of engineering positions, either!!!

 

Has anyone had any issues moving/mounting the fuel pump resistor in a different location / or even mounted not in the same orientation?

Want to move it to mount my ARB compressor here….

 

I don’t think there’d be a huge issue, it’s hot AF under the hood, so anywhere is good enough I guess?
You’ve seen the Filthy Feats mount right?
A couple guys run them, seems to be a good location.

Does that thing even get that hot? I don’t recall ever burning myself on it at all.

We still never decided if mounting locations were different from the ridgelines to the ACs so I mainly just mocked mine for double cabs…..

I didn’t know you were a fellow tactical ridgeline owner.
So I don’t have another one made, but I think I have all the pieces to make it happen. I can gather them all and mock another one up, but no promises on how long it will take, but I could get it done in 2-3 weeks probably(it’s already hot AF here!)

 

Looks great. I do love how elevated it is.

I might take you up on it. Was hoping to have this done sooner than later but if I can’t come up with anything decent I’m game

I used my 1st gen today to test the efficiency of our local highway patrol units, gotta keep ‘em on their toes. They passed with flying colors. Very efficient

 

Not Tundra related but shares the 4.7 so I hope it counts. Changed all the pads and rotors on the wife’s Sequoia.

Random question for the day. Does anyone have ideas on why her 03 Sequoia feels significantly more powerful and downshifts way snappier than my 04 Tundra? My Tundra has had the better service life, but man hers flat out scoots compared to mine. O2 sensors, cracked manifold, bad injectors, or ??

 

Maybe different gear ratio?
