Age doesn't mean a lot. If there was active yeast in the can it could explode pretty quickly. Especially if sitting above 60° f.

The fact that a neighboring can from the same series was about to go too tells me that 1: there was still active yeast in the can and 2: your storage area is too warm.

    Maybe I don't understand what you're saying.
    Here's a few things.
It's like 65-68 where I store it all.
Costco isn't going to be any cooler than that and especially when the beer is on pallets in the steel racks.
The same beer 4 pack next to it was fine.

    Oh well.

    Soup de jour.

Saw a cool comparison between this 93 proof and the pony bottle. Decided to give it a shot, nothing else interesting on the store shelf. First sub 100 I have purchased in a while.

So yeast is what makes alcohol. Yeast ferments the sugars in beer, and while doing so lets off gasses. A beer is considered fully fermented when the yeast have created enough alcohol to kill themselves.

If the cans were filled with a beer that wasn't fully fermented, ie had active yeast, then they would continue to make alcohol inside the can.. creating more and more pressure until one day...POP!

The reason some beer is 3% and some is 10% comes down to the effectiveness of the yeast, which is a controllable variable the brewer can use to get a desired product.

Higher temps make yeast more active.

This can take a month, a year... or any amount of time really. Typically it's a pretty fast trip from cannery to store to your home.

Beer is similar to wine and is best stored at 50-55 degrees.

In short, those cans were actively fermenting and between the Costco temps and your home temps were encouraged to live their best life.

Debt Free! Don’t usually splurge, but this is one of those occasions. Couldn’t find any Blanton’s locally as they are gone within the hour. So, I ordered this online.

Where did you purchase and how much was it?

I’ve bought a few bottles from Frootbat and paid $160 which I did not like.

Yikes!!! I am so glad that about 5 years ago, when the 'Great Pappy Heist/Hipsters Now Want to Drink Bourbon' BS started, that I bought a bunch of Blanton's at its original MSRP of $59... I knew it was going to climb, but I wouldn't have thought it would be sitting in the $200 range. Hell, at this point, I could ransom off 2 bottles and pay for my entire cache' of Blanton's!!!!

That Sir is the best bourbon that has ever crossed my lips. Unfortunately I live about an hour motorcycle ride from the distillery, so I drink it often. Damn i love GB's whiskeys. Try their HoneyDo.... outstanding and $73 a bottle.

Have you tried Balcones Baby Blue corn whiskey?? It's not pricey at all, and I believe that it is produced in TX as well. My brother in-law has sent me a few bottle of it here and there, and while it's not my all-time favorite, it's definitely up there for a nice sippin whiskey...

I'd be interested in trying this. I just ordered and received a Reservoir Corn Whiskey, also 100% corn mash bill. I actually love the flavor, but it's got a very strong alcohol punch at the finish. Would be curious to try other 100% corn whiskeys!

To me... Most bourbons that have sweet notes to them are hinting on vanilla, caramel and brown sugar. The corn whiskey seems to have a whole other type of sweetness (kinda like you'd find w/some corn that is just naturally sweet). So, I think what I enjoy most about it, is that unique sweetness. But, it still has to be pleasant to drink (good viscosity and mouthfeel, smooth and nothing off putting going down).

Parents picked up the Japanese Blanton's for me. Only 80 proof, and I bet it is smooth.

Good pick. That EV single barrel is quite good, especially for normally around 30 bucks

I've heard it will be available at the distillery but who knows. I'm 25 minutes from there so I'm hoping I'll still be able to get it. It's one of my favorites for mixing or an everyday sipper. Great choice and if I learn that it's definitley available at the still, I'll post up. It'll be one to grab if you're ever on the Bourbon Trail and you want a gift to take back home for a friend.

I read this is Kentucky distribution only from here on out. Glad I bought two. Not earth shattering, but really good for a low proofer.

This is the first time I am unimpressed with one of these John J Bowman bottles. If it were the first one I would be in no rush to go back for another.

Not sure why but I am unable to upload a picture.

I quite enjoy that Calumet 15 - so much that I bought a second/reserve bottle. Curious to hear your thoughts when you crack it.
