Tail Fuse Blowing Out

Hello, I really hope you guys can help me out with this headache. So I recently bought brand new headlights, fog lights, front signal lights and taillights for my truck.

I put them on and I noticed my dashboard was not lit up like it usually is. I checked my taillights and they were off. The break light will work and so the reverse lights but the the other red lights that turn on when you’re just driving. So I checked my fuses and the Tail 15A fuse was blown. I replaced it and as soon as I turned that knob to turn on the lights it blew it again.

I decided to remove every light bulb from the headlights to the fog lights, turn signal lights and tail lights and when I replaced the fuse and turned the lights knob back on it blew it again and this is with no bulbs lights anywhere. I don’t know what else to do.

I would appreciate any suggestion. Thanks in advance.

 

Check your trailer light harness and plugs. Maybe double check you didn't cut any wires when pulling things out and replacing. If your new lights came with new harnesses make sure none of those are the issue. Try putting back old components one at a time and see if it helps.

 

Okay I’ll check the trailer hitch as well. Weird thing is that even with no lights in any of the lights sockets. The fuse blows as soon as I turn the light knob.

 

You say you got new front corners, did you use the light sockets that came with them? I had a similar issue and using the old sockets fixed it. Not sure what the issue was.

 

I removed the trailer hitch harness because it was damaged but it still blew the fuse when I replaced it.

 

I replaced all the lights and some came with bulbs included. The harnesses to all the lights are still the same old ones but even with me removing all the new bulbs it still keeps blowing the fuse. I just went through like ten 15a fuses in the last hour testing the lights.

 

What was damaged and what did you remove? I would almost bet you have some wires touching that should be along that same circuit. There is a yellow wire with a grey connector next to the battery under the hood. You can try disconnecting that as well and then try your fuse again.

 

Fuses blowing is typically the result of a hot wire touching ground somewhere. Anything like that which would cause excessive load/draw on the circuit.

If it still blows with all bulbs out of each socket, I'm thinking pinched wire or one of the sockets is defective; look in each socket to see if anything is bent OR maybe it's something you did while reinstalling one of the fixtures that pinched a harness, so you may want to fully pull out (and leave hanging) every light fixture you removed to swap bulbs?

 

someone rear ended me a few months back and the hitch harness was damaged. I was going to replace it but didn’t get to it just yet. So I unplugged it from the connector.

 

Okay that makes sense. I’ll go through and see if I see anything out of place.

 

I am now having the exact same issue in my 2004 Tundra. Did you get a fix for yours?

 

@Tah188 have you made any changes on the back-end? New tail light housings? New tail light bulbs? Do you have any aftermarket trailer wiring harness back there?

 

Yes sir I have. Just like the OP I replaced headlights, marker lights, tail lights and plate lights with LED. This is when the problems started. I removed everything but the headlights back to original and it’s still blowing the fuse.

 

A lot of times with others it's been the actual bulb socket that's f'ed up on the tails.

But before you go through the trouble, just for shits 'n giggles, you may want to swap in the original headlights and see if it still happens. I know, different circuit, but there's value in restoring things to original, seeing if the problem still happens, then replacing things one-by-one to see when it comes back.

The problem with mine was that the little metal wires inside the front left turn signal socket were not set in their proper slots. I don’t know how they managed to move but they were making contact. So every time I would turn my lights on. The fuse will blow. After pushing them back down into the socket, it fixed the problem. I know that my new front turn signal was different than my original one. I eventual kept the new housing but put the original hardness into it and just bought new bulbs.

 

That it very similar to mine. I discovered my front marker lights were not stock. We went and got the 3157 original harnesses and now everything works!!! Thank you everyone for all the replies.
