If you avoid blowing your money now… and buy a house when you’re able, to control your housing expenses… you too will be financially solvent at his age. It is a bit of a bummer, most of us don’t get to be wealthy in the years we’d most relish it.

Oh yes, I believe it. I've been taking notes and plan to follow in his footsteps.

The way he is with the toys cracks me up. He enjoys owning them more than using them. He barely used his Canam over five years (like 1700 miles) and now he misses it and wants another one. He has a bike like mine he barely uses too but will never sell. He will barely use this Rubicon, I promise you.

I don’t think this dark grey is going to dry dark enough. A smooth finish over the textured may be the ticket anyway. That will give me the ability to mix for a custom color.

Damn. Bummer it’s a Jeep, not a Toyota. It’s always good to have a line on an original-owner, barely used vehicle….

We're going to Spain this year for a wedding and some friends that were also invited asked me how we were paying for it. I said, "with money we save". They seemed surprised at this concept. They both drive new vehicles with big car payments. I've not had a car payment in years. Amazing how easy it can be to save money when you live within your means. That same friend also makes more money than me.

This is a whole ‘nother pot of common sense. I see this often… most people I know… people live on credit, and can never catch up. We have good and bad money managers represented on all the sub-forums here… guys that paid cash for late gens, toys, etc., and gals that paid cash for a 1st gen… then financed long-travel :anonymous:, but I feel like many of the best at living within means are here in the 1st gen thread. And— funny— nobody here frequents the What Did You Buy Today threads.

I paid off that LT loan, stay out of the later gens threads and, last year, took an entire month off all non-essential spending— that’s what it took to reset my thinking to stop poor spending habits. I definitely have come to feel like financial “habits” differentiate which people build wealth. But it requires a full rejection of societal comparison. And I think maybe ‘more mature’ (older) people are better equipped to do this— because of life-stage personality characteristics as well as better security (established professions with higher income; home ownership sets housing costs; etc.)

Well said. I struggle with it too at times. We're surrounded by beautiful lakes here which I could enjoy for at least 6 months of the year. I'd love to buy a boat but prices and a boat slip are outrageous.

I fight the urge by reminding myself that I don't want to be one of the 75 year old Walmart greeters that work there because they need to supplement their social security.

There has to a balance of enjoying the now while recognizing we're gonna need money when we're old.

I was able to snap a few pictures. Not sure what they are. I know little about birds other than the fact that they are really government drones.

Day and a half of work available before test run in the desert. 3/4” spacers are very promising. Full straight stuff is clear (without a dynamic load). I’ll add a tad more bump stop. The washer reservoir is in jeapordy and some liner plastic. Heat gun coming out.

Yeah I got it as well the other day. Good thing my truck is exempt from emissions in MA after 15 years. Now it’s just an annoyance.

I melted the liners and the reservoir to reform them. Added a fair amount of clearance and burned my arm.

looking here, there’s nothing I really want to do. Brakes would be cool, but I need to save money for stuff that actually breaks.

So I'm just about to close on a house in a few weeks and whilst inspecting it it had a really old barn out the back, under all the junk was an AMC Pacer ( think of waynes world!). The guy hasn't driven it in 30 years and has the title for it and it looks great inside, didn't open the hood though, probably a rats nest after all these years.
I'll put air in the tires and change the fluids and see if she's worth restoring. pics to follow in a month or so.....

Here they don’t explicitly say it but the regulations change every year such that they increment the years where vehicles are exempt. I wouldn’t get away with it if I moved to NH though.

nest in the gutters caused clogs when the nests washed to the down pipes. Poop on the porch floor does no favors, gains no approval.
They can have the hedgerows, the woods behind the house, under the neighbors 2nd story deck, .... The house I aint sharing.

i haven't really opened a door or hood as yet, too busy getting a deal on the house with inspections etc, but will let you guys know once I do. This was an added bonus, he said his mother in law passed so he just parked her car in the shed 30 years ago and left it there. so I'm kinda thinking maybe she wouldn't of wanted the v8? who knows.

When i had my jeep comanche in highschool i bought an AMC 401 with dogleg ports to swap into it. And i got it running, and my mom sold it at a garage sale while i was out of town.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/124573074697
if you can find one for a few hundred bucks like i did, it would be the ultimate swap.

im on the lookout for a cheap 440 for my cherokee, but will probably settle for a LA 360 because of weight.

No one seems to be able to keep a 360 running. See old 318’s all over the place. 360’s? Nope.

I will agree with your assessment. Buying any vehicle related item that says “Dodge” on it with 234k miles is already worthless. $2200? Near madness. That motor has an interesting history though. Shame it’s out of the truck and not the snake.
