    STORY TIME!!!!

Allegedly, when I still had my learners permit, on a rainy day I was practicing sliding on backroads. Well, where trees overlapped it created a dry spot which I hit mid slide breaking said slide. Being inexperienced I panicked, stomped and held the brakes in a no abs Mazda b4000. Bee-lined it for what I thought was a ditch. We just redid the whole front end so it flashed through my mind that I was going to ruin all those new parts. Well...it wasn't a ditch but rather a 15 foot drop. Holding the brakes the whole way to the drop slowed us down enough so that rather than shooting off we just kind of tumbled off. Aforementioned crunching sounds combined with McDonalds Powerade and quarters flying around we ended up resting against a tree. My dad was hanging above me in his seatbelt. He looked down and asked if I was alright. I said yes and asked if he was and he said yes. He used the steering wheel as a step and held the door open for me. I proceeded to make the call to my mom that I rolled the truck and she got so pissed when I said it was kinda fun  Ended up using two trucks hooked up in tandem to get it back up the hill.

I thrashed a Mazda B2000 back in the day as well. Never rolled it into a ditch, but I did a surprising amount of stupid shit in it.

They are great little trucks. It actually still ran after that. Brought it home and put a cherry picker in the cab and popped the roof back out enough that it would accept a windshield. It wasn't wind nor water tight but it kept trucking along until we gave it to someone I worked with. I miss having a tough vehicle that I couldn't care less about.

I wish I was, it would make for a cooler story. Was traveling in the blues to go visit my girlfriend, now wife, and got sideways after hitting some black ice, went down into the median and then rolled 3 times and stopped with the drivers side window down on the other side of the freeway. Luckily there wasn’t much traffic. Climbed out the passenger window and walked away with a small scratch on my forehead. Was right out of high school, thought I was invincible and was driving too fast for the conditions. Definitely a humbling experience and have my fun in a much more controlled environment these days.

They were also cheaper, which in high school I was okay with. I really wanted a Tacoma when I had that one but couldn’t ever afford it. Only took me 17 years after getting my licenses to get a Toyota truck.

I wish I got to fly more. Absolutely love flying. Never done it in a small prop job like that though. Did you enjoy it? Scenery looks beautiful.

Helicopter flight is an absolute blast. Wanted to be a heli pilot since I was about 6, and did an intro flight years back where they take you up and give a quick basics run and then actually let you control, fly for a few minutes. IIRC cost me $200 for the introductory flight, and I loved every second. The pilot even did a couple auto rotations. Absolutely recommend it to anyone.

It was terrifying. The plane did not inspire confidence and the pilot said, "Good thing the wind is going straight down the runway otherwise we would never be able to get in the air!" It would randomly drop like 15 feet or more which he said was normal but it sure didn't feel normal! Fun but scary. Yeah that's Wisconsin for ya, lakes everywhere.

I've always wanted to ride in a heli, that's awesome that you did and even cooler that they let you take the controls!

Wonder if the pilot was just having fun making you feel like it was sketchy. As for the heli ride, look for light schools near you that run Robinson R-22s and R-44s, and see if they do introductory flights. Some even do intro flights at no cost. I flew with Quantum Helicopters down in AZ, and it was an amazing experience. If I had been able to afford it I would have pursued a career as a pilot. Gotta get grants or have money for that though.

Lol, maybe some day. I am in love with traveling via vehicle and also our country. It has so much to offer with all its variety and beauty. The urge to leave the country just isn't particularly strong. I miss when I could travel with my grandpa who was an over the road trucker. I will treasure those memories forever.

I have been to 38 states. At some point I would like to go to the rest. And no, sitting in an airport does not count as visiting a state :p

On airplane talk, we took a sightseeing flight in St. Thomas VI and rode in a sweet 6 person jet that had its own parachute! That was cool, the pilot made my wife a little sick with some aggressive moves though. :D

I don't have a strong desire to go to Florida, but I'd go there before risking kidnapping, getting head cut off, or dysentery in Mexico, or the utter insanity of Hawaii. It's just like Southern California but with Natives that don't want you there. I'll pass.

Does driving through it without stopping count?

Yes, definitely. Long as you actually see the land and the people. Speaking of people. When I travel sometimes I get with a feeling of awe. To imagine as I exist, living in my little town in my house, I have my own story, interests, family. Each house I see has a person or people, who all have their own unique life. And there are so many little towns!!! So many people!!! (I promise I'm not high it's just something that always hits me lol)
