for those that are wondering, i found out that the fake piped in v8 sound can be disabled via techstream.

have not confirmed it as i dont have the new techstream and a 22 to test.

from what i have heard audio wise, the fake sound adds a more throaty sound compared to the normal v6 sound.

Nice. They made it to realistic to the 5.7 anyway. Mine even ticks.

What option is it in Techstream? I turned off my seatbelts warnings, and enable the windows row-down via the keyfob in Techstream last night.

I wouldn't know mine was even running if it didn't tick.

Mind sharing where in Techstream to find these settings?
    (for the benefit of all)

    Thanks.

But then you’re stuck listening to the nasally whine of the little V6.

It’s not a V8 sound tho. It samples the V6 tone. Too loud anyway, glad it can be disable by Techstream so anyone can ask the dealer at one of the service intervals.

like i said its what i was told, i cant verify it since i dont have the new techsteam and a 22 to confirm it.

car care nut posted a video of being able to disable it and the difference between it turned on and off in the video.

When I saw the first thread on the fake V8 sound I thought it was a joke.
I can't believe this is actually a real thing..

Hook up some outdoor speakers in your wheel wells, and rev that v8 engine at the traffic lights with a turn of a knob!

just like the fake sounds on electric vehicles of an engine. have you heard the telsa engine sounds you can add on, lol.

do a google search "youtube telsa piped in engine sound"

and toyota was not the first to do this even for regular vehicles.

I've got a v1.4.1 firmware OBDII/VCS cable on the way. Once I get it set up I will try and photograph all the settings and put them into a new thread for people to reference.

Does anyone know what the minimum version of TechStream needed to access the 22s is? I have a download link and patch for v17.00.020, which is the newest I've been able to find. I think it should work, but finding solid info has been dicey at best.

it looks like v 17 has the tundra HV in it so it should have the latest selection screens for the 22.

I stand corrected. Just went through the listings again and it's under "Others". Did turn off the fake engine sounds (ESE) but left the noise cancellation on (ANC).

Once you get logged in, on the left-side panel, Customized options. There's a lot more than my 2014!

Fake sounds are so cheap, I don't get the appeal. Do people actually like pretending? I'd rather just hear what's actually under the hood, or nothing even if it's not impressive.

Weirdly enough, I wasn't sure if my Limited DC had the fake engine sounds or not but I thought it did. I went into TechStream last night and I DID NOT have the option to change ANC/ESE. I listened extra closely and wondered if the reason I thought it wasn't very noticeable was because I didn't have it in the first place!? :blahblah:

Is it fair to say that this is for the hybrid models only?

My previous understanding was the it was for Limited trims and up (regardless of Hybrid or not), but it may not be the case. It could be that it's not on the Limited DC but only the Crew Max but I'm not sure. I do know that my truck doesn't have the TechStream option to disable regardless.
