I had a few of them in my yard and ripped them out by hand. One of the roots survived and its trying to make a comeback but I'm gonna kill it.

Now I'm wondering if I have pics of our house over the years.

I don't think about documenting it because what it used to be (or look like) doesn't matter once it's changed.
I also don't really care as long as Kelly is happy. **If I were to build, I'd care very much. But as we keep buying houses instead of building them, meh.

I'd advise waiting until the soil is moist, but I heard it doesn't rain in SoCal. So that advice is useless.

Ugh. The damn whiteflies? Forgot about those little bastards.

Since we pulled ours and replaced with other stuff that isn't so dense, we get a lot more birds.

This little Carolina wren popped by to pay a visit not too long ago. Unfortunately, his style of knocking was to hit a damn window head-on. Had to take him out back to the shade to recover.

I just dug under them and acted like the dentist of giants from there. Grabbed them and twisted them until I could rip them out with as much root as possible. I hosed them down the night before to try and eliminate the dust.

I still have a weird bush I need to dig up and get rid of, and a big fern thing that looks like a bundle of pipe cleaners. I'm just not sure what I will put in to replace them.

That's normal for ferns when they just sprout in spring, if that's what you're looking at. The little sprouts are called fiddleheads. Or maybe you have something else.

We had some of those when I was a kid. They had little red berries on them just like asparagus.

Autumn ferns do well up your way and get pretty beasty. Die back to the ground each year though.

Here you go. Here's what mine looked like about a year after I went halvsies on it with a coworker, couldn't afford it on my own back then.

Boxwoods on the left, variegated ligustrum on the right, and not a damn tree, wall, paver, or fence in sight.

My 1st gen Taco has 6 lug nuts per mounted wheel. Or are you saying 2nd gen doesn't have 6?

I'd take those nice fellas any day. Y'all are lucky if you don't get these bastards over there. Make those red paper wasps look like mosquitos. The only thing more ferocious than these guys maybe ground hornets. We had those everywhere in LA, mostly the tree version in N. GA.

(You see those two little bastards keeping watch at the entrance? That's intentional. The second you come in range, they tell the hive, and your ass is grass...)

Cool. Is that a dent or crumple zone activation? Assuming crumple zone would be direct over wheel at apex, but....?

They literally just returned to 6 on the newest gen Tundra that just came out. Meanwhile, I think the Taco has had 6 all this time? Same with the T4R. Why? Don't ask me.

My thing is this. It's bad enough I'm living in the damn city, I legitimately prefer being outdoors, but I'm not moving out just to commute back in M-F. I've done everything I can to make my outdoors in the city more like the outdoors outside the city so I can be outdoors more often, even if it's not the actual outdoors I'd prefer.

If I'm in front, I can hang out with friends around the fire at the pit. If I want some peace and quiet in the shade, I can hit the bench, and if I need the shade with peace and quiet, I've got a stand of trees I planted out back (oak, hackberry, cherry laurel, cypress) that feels like I'm in the woods from the back deck.

Best part is, a lot of stuff in my yard is edible. Peaches, blueberries, figs, herbs all over the place like oregano, mint, parsleys, rosemary, the garden on the side yard, and other little weird shit here and there.

I'm just pissed. The fig tree I had out back was just getting big enough to string a hammock from it to the maples I planted when I moved in, but damn wind took it down when a storm rolled through mid-year. Planted that thing for my daughter when she was born. I lack a hammock. Sucks.

Been chasing away stupid little birds for years. They seem to think my porch light, porch ceiling, gutters, garage are all good places for nesting.
Now crows & ravens - they are welcome. Funny as S to watch. If they had thumbs we'd have a serious competitor.

I think on the second gens it's mainly the 2.7s that are 5-lug. Our 4.0 prerunner 2wd is a 6-lug.

I think we can conclude that counting lug nuts should be left to the die hards. :notsure:

My digital antenna has stayed put since whenever the antenna world went digital.
The wind has realigned it 3 times this year. Each time I correct it I add something to ensure it stays put.
Todays fix total fail, need to go up & revisit.
Wonder how much i'd loose mounting it to the rafters in the attic?

Is all this crazy wind a part of global warming? I seriously need a windmill wired to a Tesla power wall.
I've never seen incessant winds like this except in the open desert.

I've dealt with everything you're talking about when I stayed every other summer with my grandparents in Karnes City or my aunt & uncle in Stockdale when I was younger, except add rats and rattlesnakes too. Tarantula fishing is fun.

But for the life of me, I don't remember ever seeing/hearing/dealing with the centipedes you posted about. Is that a recent thing, last decade or two? I haven't stayed a summer in SATX at least 30 years, just visited every few until grandma died a few years back.
