3/4 Ton Truck

Thinking of train my tundra in for a 2017-2019 ford 3.5L eco boost with the 3.55 gear ratio because the payload is 2000lbs vs my tundra payload at 1360

 

What trim level? You need to be real careful. Starting with Lariat's they max out around 1,600 pounds. The King Ranch, Platinum Limited you are looking around 1,400 or even less.

2,000 payload I assume is an XL, maybe and XLT lower trim.

While the sticker is higher on the Ford's, the Tundra handles the weight much better. F150's are just too light and softly sprung so you notice the extra payload quite a lot.

 

will airbags and a WDH help the ford?

 

The biggest problem the Ford has is it's too light, the soft suspension sure doesn't help, but driving older Ford's with similar suspension but steel bodies handled the weight better. It's too easy for the tail to wag the dog when it comes to trailering. Pretty sure most of us on here are in agreement if a Tundra isn't quite enough move up to 3/4 tons. Those things are primarily built to tow and haul, not get your puppy to the grocery store and dog spaw.

 

An HD truck would help.

 

Found a white 2015 Ford F-250 XL 4x4 6.2L gasser 3.73 gear ratio with 88k miles and it’s certified with warranty at a ford dealer for 32k OTD. Is that to high on price or is that a good price?

 

Location is going to matter, but me personally I wouldn't even pay 32k CAD for a previous gen 6.2 XL. The 2017 refresh on Super Dutys was a HUGE update, the 2016's were essentially late 90's vehicles and finally brought up to date in 2017

 

I’m in Southern California and can’t find a 2017 for nowhere close to 40k OTD. Have been looking for months and this is the first one I’ve found that’s 32k OTD the other closest deal I’ve found was a 2016 for 37K OTD

 

I've heard the horror stories of pricing in Cali, but this takes the cake. Have you looked into buying in another state? Others on here can help out with how the tax situation works for you - but it may end up saving you money at the end.

Cost more than 32k OTD for the exact same truck. Called my bank and the mspr is at 46k and the Kelly trade in value is 36k

 

That's crazy. Up here I found a few at that price range, and even a Lariat with roughly 150k miles at 27k CAD. Vehicle prices have gone insane this last little bit

 

I would personally track a new one down at the cost your looking for a used one. $32k for a used one with 88k miles is a lot to deal with. Having owned HD trucks in the past. I personally wouldn’t t buy them used. Plus their warranties on any used truck is not the same coverage as a new truck warranty. Yes the new Ford HD start at $39k for 2 wheel drive, but looking out of state, and checking outfitters as well you can still find new truck at are 2019-2021 still sitting on the lots.

Recently our company picked up new sprinter box truck from outfitter in Ohio this way. Truck is a 2019. We saved a ton a money, still a new truck and didn’t have the crazy wait time Mercedes Sprinter locally was quoting us.

Does yours mostly get used on site? I find idling around at 10-20 mph all the time seems to be harder on the drivetrain than you think it should be.

 

Could you imagine having an iForce Max work truck with comparable HD payload numbers? Six seater, column shift, bare bones interior, vinyl flooring. I’d buy one in a heartbeat.

That seems like a good price, no? If I were in the market for an HD rig, it would be that truck with a gas engine and a 6.75’ bed.
