I'm using (sparingly) a substitute to quit smoking. I bought the only FDA kinda approved vape (Vuse) to help.
Yes I know it's not perfect, but I'm 52 and have been smoking since my teens, so it's not exactly easy to do. Having a substitute to take the edge off has so far made me successful for over a week. I think I would have lost my mind without a little something to assist.

Dude get it!!!! congrats for wanting to stop!!!!
I know vapes are terrible as well, but they helped me stop smoking!!!! I’ve probably vaped enough to kill two small children, and I don’t vape or smoke cigs at all now!

Nice! I needed something after smoking so long. My plan is to quit vapes too, maybe step down to gum/lozenges first, then nothing.

At one point I just got tired of vaping. I threw my sweet triple cell box mod in a dumpster and walked away. Quitting vaping is so much easier that cigs!
I also laugh every day when I see kids vaping on campus and wonder if they’ve ever even smoked a Marboro or a camel or a Newport? My guess is no, it’s just another weird fad that somehow caught on for the wrong reason for the wrong generation

I haven’t had an “energy drink” in 17 years. There’s so much chemical shit in those things - no fucking way.

The habit can be harder to kick than the drug. 25 years later, sometimes out of the blue, certain situations or circumstances will sense that craving into my brain - a really frigid morning is probably the strongest one for me.
But I am so hypersensitive to the smell of it now, that little twinge of craving dies pretty damn fast.

And good on you for taking the step. I’m a long ways from my last smoke at this point, but I’ve got nothing but admiration and support to offer for anyone that tries. You got this brother

Yep, it's not easy. I'm doing good but I will admit that at this point I would probably brutally kill any random person for a real smoke.

Although that's not saying much. I was pretty close to doing that anyways even before I quit smoking just cause, you know, people.

I started smoking Pall Mall non filter when I was 15. I was a heavy smoke until my mother passed when I was 50. She didn't have cancer but she died from complications from smoking. Basically, her lungs could no longer transfer O² in and CO² an CO out. She suffocated to death. I watched my dad anguish over the hard decisions like moving her to palliative care and I promised my Mom, my wife and kids, and myself I would quit smoking.

For two weeks I changed up the times I would light up. Forced myself to wait two hours after dinner to go outside and light up.

After that two weeks, I rode the patch (21 mg, 14 mg, and 7 mg) during the day and took them off an hour before bed. I told myself that the first week on the patch when I took it off I could go outside and smoke no more than two cigarettes before bed.

The first night - those two smoked were great! By the end of the week I couldn't even stand the initial puff.

I rode the patches as instructed through the 14 mg then 7 mg patches. I had less than 24 hours of irritability when I shifted down to the next lower dosage patch. After the 7 mg was done there was nothing.

I haven't smoked since then. That was 2014. I used no other replacement therapy other than the patch. No complications, no issues, no coughing up junk, nothing. I've never even craved another smoke. I will admit occasionally when my wife and I are sipping on a nice scotch we both would love a good cigar. I know I would turn right back into a smoke again with one good cigar so we don't give in.

@Azblue - you've got this. My winning ticket was my head got involved. I wish you the best of luck with your quitting smoking. We're pulling for you.
