Auto Dimming Feature Missing on One Side View Mirror

If they will color match my grill mustache and throw in a skid plate I will forget about the non dimming passenger side mirror

 

Lmao, I too could be bought for less than the actual fix is going to cost them haha

 

This is the screen shot from the spec sheet for my Limited 4x4
(showing "mirrors " plural.) like everyone else is noting.
Is anyone perusing this?
I normally wouldn't make a big deal but since I was forced to pay for a $79 phone charger cord
I might want Toyota to do something.
Do they have some kind of clause that lets them off the hook?

 

A few of us are taking action on this. I have an appointment at dealer service on 13APR for this. I will update as this progresses.

 

Had mine at the dealer Wednesday they acknowledged it was missing took pics and printed a build sheet with mirrors plural and were going to contact Toyota and get back to me

 

My dealer acknowledged it should have come with it. Parts are on order.

 

I’m joining in as well. Appreciate the heads up! I did notice that only the driver side mirror dimmed. Checked my spec sheet and “mirrors” is plural. Thanks guys - will keep the thread updated.



Something similar also happened with my wife’s 2022 Hybrid RAV4 SE - it’s supposed to come with interior accent lighting and we have none. Similar thread in the RAV4 forum as well were all SE owners are left without that feature.

 

Where do you find this spec sheet? I have the same option, but my window sticker and build sheet the Toyota app gives me doesnt mention the mirrors at all

For what it's worth my I have no clue if my SR5 has auto dimming exterior mirrors and it doesn't bother in the least.

 

I can certainly live without an auto-dimmimg passenger mirror, but I make it a habit to get what I pay for.

 

Mine was emailed to me when I ordered the truck once it was allocated to the dealer. I guess it is what they got, specifying what truck they would receive. I took a screen shot when they emailed it to me, to which I'm glad because the link they sent only worked for a few days.

It does specify "mirrors" in the manual as well.

I have a 1794, only drivers side has dimming. Kinda weird if you ask me. I had a number of instances on the highway during a couple of road trips where the glare from passenger side mirror was distracting.

 

Case manager from Toyota told me that the literature might be misleading but there is nothing they can do about it and no compensation will be offered. Thinking about reaching out to a lawyer about it.

 

A lawyer will cost more than just paying for the mirror install though

 

For sure, but maybe I can get someone to initiate a class action. If it’s going to cost me any money I won’t do anything about it.

Misleading is an understatement! That is the definition of bait and switch. I have a spec sheet with my vin# and vehicle price indicating it has auto dimming side mirrors. My dealership is looking into it. I stumped them when I mentioned the spec sheet.

I'm not sure I'd get a lawyer, but if I did, Toyota will pay for them in the end. Yes, in the big scheme of things it's small, but imagine what Toyota is saving at $500 a mirror per the thousands or hundred thousand trucks. What a scam! That could be a legit class action suit.

 

UPDATE- So my replacement passenger side mirror arrived (original was scratched during transport) and installed by the dealer. However, it was not the auto dimming one.

If anyone has had theirs replaced with the correct one please let us know.

 

Thanks for the update. I don't think any of us will be receiving an auto dimming passenger side mirror. My truck is currently in for service for other warranty related issues and that was also brought to their attention. I have been told by the service manager that corporate Toyota says no such part is made and therefore cannot be placed on the vehicle. I can fully understand this but now it becomes a matter of what compensation should they provide for selling something and not delivering.

I asked them where the line is drawn as far as what is acceptable to not provide versus when would compensation be offered. If my spec sheet said the truck was four wheel drive and it wasn't, surely I would get compensation. If the spec sheet said it came with all weather floor mats, surely they would be there or I would get refunded....etc etc. So far, I have been told I will not receive auto-dimming mirrors but they have not replied to the above argument.

It is to the point that I am now just aggravated with how they're handling it and want to follow through out of aggravation.

 

I hear you. I don't want to let it go either but if they don't replace it I'm not going to lose sleep over it. All we can do is hope they have a fix sometime down the line.

 

I will give you an update next month on how this is being resolved for me.

Rather than yelling at the clouds just yet, I have a Q for all of you: does a auto-dimming PASSENGER side mirror actually exist?
(there is no way the ALL of these trucks came with only one, by mistake/etc).

Yes, the literature/spec sheets/etc may be erroneously listing both as auto-dimming, but perhaps it's a single one all along.
...but I do agree with everyone else: very misleading, if this is by design, and it should NOT be forgotten.

What's next? Heated seatS....but only on one side?

It is weird that it's not there. I have it on my 2020 Platinum. It's really not power dimming like rear view mirror, it's more just a tint that shows up more at night

 

My truck isn't in until next week but both the camry and Sienna parked in my driveway only have auto dimming on the driver side. Not sure if an auto dimming passenger mirror is even a thing?

 

It is/was on my 2017 Tundra Platinum...and many other+previous models.

As I stated previously, my dealer is claiming Toyota says one is not made for the 22. The only proper way to move forward is to change the wording on spec sheets, manual, etc and make it right with those who have purchased a dimming passenger mirror. Erroneously listed, misworded, misleading, no matter what it is called, I purchased one and did not receive one. That is the literal definition of bait and switch.

I checked today, it is still listed on the Toyota web page when comparing models. It says auto-dimming side mirrors are standard.

 

I've had several vehicles with auto dimming mirrors, and none of them dimmed the passenger side.

 

It's a misprint in the literature. You can order as many mirrors as you want and none will be auto dimming. A lawyer will just cost you in the end. Just drive the dam truck like we have done since the horse buggy days.
