I’m pretty confused: I don’t see a red circle, but I do see a blue circle. Also, anyone that’s paid attention knows I can’t visualize anything— how do these two pics fit together? I’m assuming they show parts of the same desired route… but what parts, are we looking at them from that same wall you opened up-?

Next: I used to install and repair coax cable, so I’ve been able to follow this pretty well, although I’ve never installed an antenna. Acknowledging that I don’t have a clear picture of whether those 2 pics are different views of the same wall… is, are you drilling through one wall, or two? If it’s 2, they don’t have to line up, if you have a way to fish from one to gen other, or add a large conduit. ?

Well is going to be a must on this one, Right Angle Drill motor!
Then use a chisel to start the hole by making a flat surface at the angle you want the hole to follow in the top of that joist.. That will stop the Forstner from wandering into the cut. Make sure the bit has a pilot bit that will aid in pulling itself though the hole. 2.5" Forstner, with a shank extension if necessary. Take it slow, seems like a viable option it the space you need that hole placed!

First pic has a blue arrow that shows where the blue circle is. Basically, imagine standing and looking at the wall in the first pic, and then you move forward and up to be able to look down on the blue circle.

How fast does Mom's bike have to be? If she doesn't need a rocket look at the Honda CB500 series bikes. They have some lower seat heights, and you've 3 different styles to choose from.

Im all about solving a problem and I’m not trying to argue semantics here but I am literally staring at a picture of 2 TJI joists that “bear” on a 2x6 top plate.

I meant blue circle. Red lines. It's late. I also just realized, that doesn't look like a 2x6. Apparently because the chip-board is double-stacked? Not sure why.

Two pics fit together like this: Top pic is looking up into the hole, 12" joist on the right. 2nd pic is looking down at the header you can see the top 3/9" of from that joist, down toward that header I need to go through. The blue arrow is basically pointing at the blue circle.

I just need to drill through the header, where the circle is, but I only have about 11" of highly available room, which sounds like a lot, until you consider most compact right-angle drivers are 4-5" with the chuck, and most auger bits over 2" are a good 6" sticking out of the chuck. Hole saws are much shorter, but suck at cutting thru a pair of 2x nailed on top of each other.

I hear what you're saying, and if you saw what this looked like before I sheetrocked the ceiling in, you'd understand why I'm saying it's not load bearing in the traditional sense.

There are 3 joists in this 15' hallway and you're looking at two of them in the pic. The load bearing joists go from the basement wall to the wall behind me, and stop, holding up one side of the house. The other side of the staircase carries the other joist on its load bearing wall.

The joists you see in this picture are as wide as the hallway, cut off on both ends. They apparently only installed them to provide something to (a) nail the subfloor above to, and (b) to keep someone from smashing/cutting/beating on the flex duct? Literally, if you can knock on them with a hammer and hear they're not carrying any weight.

Search long shank forstner. Here's a 2.25 by 6" long.

Meant to say 0.375" but my finger slipped and hit the slash. :monocle:

That's what I originally ordered. But after realizing only 4.5" of the top header board was exposed, I cancelled the order and picked up the 2" variant instead. I think the guide tip may be long enough I don't need the flat at 70º, will know if it gets here tomorrow as AzPrime says it will.

I have just enough space between studs (between the red marks, roughly) I can put two 2" holes about 1" apart, so I'm just going to do that, and run my RG6 through one conduit and the cat6 through the other. Problem solved, I think.

Now I just need to figure out my smurf situation.

I think I’m up to speed. Before I offer opinions, what is behind here, anything we can damage, drilling a big hole through this board? Or can we focus on angle to fit our tool of choice + the hand that holds it, on the right side of that silver column thing, and all will be well?

Me. I could, and probably will, damage me drilling through it. :D

And yes, I think your tactic is what I'll be choosing.

Behind that chipboard is a very stout staircase.

SOOO funny. When I went to quote this, I got Papa Smurf (not Bruce), but when I posted, it showed up as Travolta turning in circles. Familiar movie… pulp fiction?

Anyway. You do know this is margarita de mayo, right? :drunk:

Yeah, the original gif I found was one smurf eating papa smurf's ass. But when I hit reply, it showed up as the Travolta 'lost' meme from Pulp Fiction. Weird.

I almost “liked” this on general friendly principal, but then it occurred to me, you might throw it outside my tent. Because I’ve already been traumatized on this forum by sexual references I knew nothing about, I cannot risk a “like” even to support a friend. Sorry, Buddy….

*Please throw that fleshlight at @des2mtn ’s tent. He’s a true friend! And a better man than I.
