Hey everyone! I’m a noob here. I always drove a 4Runner. Finally taking a leap and switching over to Tundra (I hope with all the QC issues I been reading here, this was not a mistake). This will be my first tundra and cannot be more excited!

I have a SR5 OR fully loaded in midnight black set to be built on May 10th. I been waiting for a TRD Pro since December and just decided to go for any trim I can get my hands on for now while I wait. There are two people ahead of me at my dealer so realistically could be 1-2 years before I’ll get my TRD Pro. Who knows, maybe I’ll be surprised and still get it this year. However, this SR5 will hold me over so I’m in no rush.

I had the choice between black or white. I hope I made the right decision with black. I’ve never owned a black vehicle before so this will be the first for me on so many different levels lol.

yeah because of that, I’m debating if it’ll be worth the trouble for me to ceramic coat the truck if I don’t plan to keep it long term. A ceramic coat should help with keeping it clean right?

A high quality wax (3-M, McGuire’s, or Eagle One) will do an excellent job & save you some cash.

That’s true. Wax would be the cheaper route with less time and money invested up front and mush easier to apply. But it has to be applied every couple washes and more time spent and work on waxing in the long run.

Why I’m looking at ceramic is that a consumer grade ceramic still can last 2-3 years and they are fairly cheap, around $60-70 for Carpro UK 3.0. And it’s also easy to apply when a car is brand new. Way less decontamination and paint correction needed compared to when it’s been driven around for a while. I understand though it takes way more work upfront especially on a full size truck.

I guess my point with this ceramic debate is, is it worth the trouble for short term (1-2 years) and if the benefits over wax will help eliminate the frustration of keeping a black vehicle clean.

Good question. May be 6 of one and 1/2 dozen of the other.
