Update found a 2020 white double cab thanks for the input and help.

Comrades I am looking to return to a tundra. A few questions I have are year models for the 38 gallon fuel tank? I believe it to be 2015 and up. However I don’t want any radar mechanism in the grill which limits me to 2017. What trim package do I need for ventilated seats limited and higher or platinum and higher? Past that if anyone has something like this in Florida that is 4x4 and looking to sell hook me up. Thanks for the help.

I believe that the big tank came in 2016. It was not in the 2015.

I have a 2016 Limited CrewMax TRD. It came with the 38 gallon and I cannot recall if the smaller tank was part of any 2016.

In 2016, you would have needed to get up to Platinum for ventilated seats. I was tempted, but didn't have the coin nor did I like the rims that came with the Platinum.

I have a 2017 with the factory/dock towing package that includes the 38 gallon tank. My memory tells me that towing package and 38 gallon tank were linked. Bigger alternator too!!!!!

I have missed this forum I left my tundra for a power wagon and then a Cummins so glad to be coming back soon.

No other forum is this helpful.

Don't be afraid of 2018 and up with the Radar. It's one of he best implementations I've seen of this tech. It gives warnings only (no taking the wheel from you or braking on its own). In addition, I believe it all can be permanently turned off in the dash menu's.

Also FYI, in researching the fuel pump repair, I saw several aftermarket big fuel tank kits (so that I could go with an aftermarket fuel pickup for better reliability than the Toyota Denso pump pickup with integrated donut filter).

It may help open up your search options. Good luck.

Thanks all, I had a 2019 crew max. If I have to get radar I will, I just want a steel pipe bumper with a winch. I fear the radar will interfere with it.

While I agree that it is a pretty good implementation, my 2020 has braked on its own once, but I don't think it has the capability to take the wheel.

mine jammed up with snow once and didn’t work. Cool system I just don’t care to have it. No clue where the Marine Corp and life will take me, less gadgets the better. Besides ventilated seats I want those.

2016 and 2017 for the large tank and none of the TSS stuff! As far as trims, I would worry more about finding one of those years and a truck in good condition at a fair price. If you find one in a higher trim at a price you are willing to pay that will be gravy.

Large tank was still an upgrade option in 2018. (Not standard)

Avoid a flex fuel model- they seemed to have issues with the fuel pump (do the research, I could have that wrong).

TSS will apply brakes in a collision-avoidance scenario only. Typically you just get an alarm and an orange cluster warning.

(When my brakes activated once, I was actually glad they did). No effect at all on steering.

Sounds like ‘17 is probably your sweet spot. Good luck!

Yea I’ve seen that with the FFV. I’m a very proficient mechanic but I don’t really wanna screw with anything, besides leveling kit and skid plates.

How did you like the Ram trucks? I’m curious about their long term quality these days.

If you need a diesel I have an 05 that’s rather well built. It was the bees knees. Had a 2017 power wagon it was awesome but got rid of it due to the truck market and made a pretty penny. The new 2019 and newer 3/4 ton hemis have the zf8 tranny are awesome. I no longer need a diesel and want a tundra again. Marine Corp divorce and all that.

Agreed. It will brake for you, as mentioned before, but—and this is huge for me—when it shuts off (from snow or whatever), the only thing you notice is a light on the dash. It doesn’t put you into limp mode or anything like that.

Not to bad I got a deal on the tank I just didn’t know my truck was a flex fuel so I needed a different sender unit. So I had to drop the tank 2 times but all in all not to bad

Pretty sure 2016 was the first year the 38 gallon tank was available. Part of the reason I went with the SR5 upgrade package was because at the time, that was the package that included the 38 gallon tank. No leather at the time for SR5, had to go Limited which I didn’t do. I think now you can select an SR5 with a leather upgrade or go aftermarket with Katskin. Love me some big momma 38 gallon tank action though!

Same here. Got the 2016 SR5 upgrade package specifically for the 38 gallon tank, although I don't think I've ever pumped more than 32 gallons into it even with the fuel gauge buried in the E.

I will echo the posts that the TSS stuff really isn't that bad. My first Tundra was an '18 and now I'm driving a '21. I've had the alert go off a handful of times between both trucks over the years. It really hasn't been an issue.
