Rca or speaker level 2020 non jbl

I have a 5 channel amp that only has rca inputs. If I hook up the Dasaita head unit using the rca outs (front, rear, sub), will I lose the speaker level to the dash/center? (I'm not sure if the Dasaita can do both rca and speaker level at the same time)

If I need to buy an adapter, what speaker level to rca adapter is recommend?

 

The HU should send the signal to both outputs.

 

Just ditch the dash speakers.

 

I would but I have the dash/center hertz tweeters from JRT tech12volts (factory doors for now)

 

Low level inputs (RCA, hdmi, etc.) are always better/preferred because they have no amplification of any signals causing some distortion (like speaker level would)....

 

In the world of audio, an RCA connector indicates you are dealing with an unbalanced signal, with a P-P voltage of about 1 volt max. The output impedance of a device is around 600Ω The input impedance however is around 10k Ω.

Speaker outputs however are very low, 2, 4, 6, 8 Ω's. But their volts P-P out can be quite high.
So, for example, 1,000 watts / 8-ohm = 89.4 volt level at 11.2 amps).

Whatever you do, DO NOT put speaker level directly into line level, it will certainly FRY the input!

The dash speakers are powered directly from the head unit.

 

Best thing to do would be to get a 6ch amp and a dedicated sub amp.
You should be able to get away with pairing up the left lash with the left door speaker (plug them both into the same port on the amp).

 

@KK6PD - So you are saying to AVOID using RCA from headunit to RCA of 5 channel amp, and instead build/buy a speaker level to line level converter?

 

Hi there, I'm saying just make sure your levels from one device to another are proper so there are no problems. If you want to use speaker feeds to get a signal into the amp, just make sure you attenuate to the proper level. If you can use a RCA line level out, to a amp with a RCA line level in, that deals in the 1 volt range, that would be the best way to go. I'm not acquainted with the amp you are using. Let me know the make & model number, I can look it up, give you a more informed answer!

OK there, I just downloaded the manual, all 2 pages of it!
Multiple warnings about mounting the amp where it would get good air flow. It seems this baby really gets hot.
On to the meat of the matter, this unit will take speaker level in! You DO NOT need to attenuate the signal into the amp. There is NO Sub Woofer input however.
It samples the L & R front & rear and then provides a sub output. I have no idea on how good or bad this is. But hey try it.
You will need to make up several (4) speaker High Level to RCA plugs cables. You will want to put the positive speaker feed to the center pin of the RCA connector, the speaker ground goes to the ground terminal on the RCA connector!

Do not mix these cables up, or you probably will get the smoke scenario!

Just make sure you allow for cooling, Sony was VERY insistent of this minor detail!!!

 

I might just run 3 sets of RCA's, front/rear/sub to make life easy on myself then right? Lol

 

Well ... think about this, are you running 4 sets of speakers and a sub? LF RF LR RR + SUB? If so use all 4 amps for those feeds, and use the HU sub feed for the 5th amp. That is what this amp is really designed for! Follow this diagram ....


Since the amp will generate the sub feed itself by sampling the 4 channels, clipping off the majority of signal above some specific frequency. 80Hz is a good SUB crossover freq. If this is good for you wire like this ...


If you only have FR FL + SUB, what you propose is perfect. Especially if you have a SUB feed available, yeah!

Last you will need to adjust the amp... These controls will let you set the crossover from 50Hz to 200Hz for the subwoofer feed, plus you have a gain control to help balance the sub.
