I have some updates for you. Installed the Carven TR muffler in place of stock. Left rest of exhaust including resonator in place. I was happy with how it sounded with just this set up, so we left it as is. My brother is a mechanic, not a welder but for what I paid :)cheers:), he did a hell of job for me. Couple of pics and links to a couple of YouTube shorts of startup and rev.

Sorry man, it’s a V6. The firing order and exhaust layout sounds like shit, and there is no enhancing it.

Can you make it nearly silent? That would be a move in the right direction.

No disrespect to anyone here, but I’m with @Coal Dragger on this. The turbos spooling is the nicest mechanical sound coming out of these trucks. Not a fan of the fake noise they pipe in and I’m not really liking the amplified V6 sound.

I'd rather have an aftermarket intake on the truck and listen to the turbo and induction noise rather than the exhaust. Hopefully more intakes are released soon.

If you're not interested in adding an exhaust to this truck, you shouldn't follow this thread. I know a v6 will never sound like a v8, but get over yourselves guys. The future is here. The new Raptor sounds really good and there's NO reasons why the Tundra can't sound better than the ecoboost.

No the new Raptor also sounds like flatulence. Just like any other V6. Nothing to be done about it.

Some engine layouts just don’t sound pleasing. Inline 4’s and V6’s just sound like someone having a wet messy shit, at least until they’re well into the top end of the RPM range.

If Toyota wanted to have done this correctly they would have given us an inline 6. Those can sound glorious, in addition to running smoother, and reducing parts count.

There are plenty of other engines out there we can enjoy the sound of from lumpy V twins, to warbling V10’s, and howling V12’s plus plenty in between. Sadly the V6 is not going to ever end up on a list of pleasing engine notes, due to firing order and exhaust layout. They sound like farts. Why make the fart sounds louder?

Don't be a dick and drag this on as far as you can. Yes, you aren't happy about the current Tundra and Toyota should of done this, should of done that, etc. To each their own opinions, but the new Raptor sounds much better than the previous generation.

Driving with a stock exhaust is not everyones cup of tea. I can't wait until the aftermarket parts comes out! I might have to go to muffler shop and do a homemade setup.

I agree. Seems like most people who complain about 3rd Gen exhaust mods always compare it to a V8 exhaust. I'm sure this isn't their intention, but it's hard not to think this way: It's like they think every 3rd Gen owner is doing exhaust mods on their truck with the specific intention to try & make it sound like a 5.7l V8. They're not. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

Overall, I think it's more accurate to compare the Toyota TTV6 exhaust mods to other V6 exhaust systems. Like those for the Ford F150 Ecoboost, 2.7L Turbo Engine in the Chevy 1500, the NA 3.6L Pentastar in the Rams, or even to the NA 3.5L in the Taco.

With that in mind, I think many of the aftermarket exhaust systems sound better on the Toyota than the Ford Ecoboost. I think the exhaust note on the Toyota sounds a lot better than the Ford Ecoboost, but I can only really compare it right now between Magnaflow since they made systems for both engine platforms.

    My personal preference is:
    1. Magnaflow Overland Series
    2. Craven Muffler
    3. Magnaflow Street (distant 3rd)
    4. Gibson (even more of a distant 4th)
I would consider the Magnaflow Overland system one day, but I'm sure it'll be north of $1,100. That's a lot of money for a mod that, at the end of the day, is purely "cosmetic" (in an auditory sense) and provides no real performance/capability improvement.

thats what I ended up doing because I didnt like any of the current options. I went with a JBA muffler I had and a Vibrant performance resonator. No rasp, just a mellow tone with a bit rumble.

So you are looking for a positive feedback loop reaffirming your actions? Sounds like you’re pretty sensitive. Maybe Internet forums where people freely express opinions isn’t a good place for you, because there are going to be contrary opinions to yours.

For the record I’m not totally opposed to the 3rd Gen Tundra, Toyota didn’t knock it out of the park, but it’s probably going to be a solid product once all the beta testers buying the first model year point out all the weaknesses. I’m not upset about a twin turbo V6 even though I strongly prefer an inline 6. It makes good power, and gets better mileage than my current 5.7L, the way either engine sounds stock is so far down on the list of priorities for me it’s not going to affect a purchase decision.

Having said that I stand by my comments that V6’s (all of them short of those spinning to 8,000+ RPM) sound blatty like flatulence sounds. There’s no point in making a V6 louder for the sake of audible gratification in my opinion. Now if additional noise is the price of gaining more power or efficiency then so be it, but these days most stock exhaust systems don't leave many Freedom Eagles on the table.

Even the thousands of V8 exhaust threads have pissing matches about what sounds good and what doesn't - the dual TRD is a love it/hate it system. Why exclude the v6 from feedback/criticism? For me it's not about hating the 3rd gens or clinging to my v8 forever. I was actually hopeful that maybe the v6 would sound good with an aftermarket set-ups. To my ear, they don't, but I'll keep following to see if a setup comes along that does sound good.

No disrespect and opinions are like a-holes (we all got em).

Any videos? Keith didn't make a video of the truck revving near the exhaust. He only did it for stock.

As a reference, went through several sets of exhausts for my 17 Runner TRDP. I learned, its a V6 and you can't make it sound like a V8.

Installed the Dirty Deeds exhaust on my 22 Tundra about a week ago. It's not bad and better then the Borla, Magnaflow or URD I ran on the 4Runner.

Observations: It's not obnoxiously load. The system has some buzzing (Drone) above 2K RPM especially under normal acceleration as trans moves through the gears. Once RPM drop below 2K to 1500-1700 range becomes very quite. Again, my perspective.

I will be putting a resonator in front of the DD Muffler and based on experience should take it down a few DB as well as eliminate the buzzing.

For $550 I would expect a better review, to be honest. Any shop can weld in a muffler like that for $50-100. I paid more for the resonator than for the labor cost...all in all only $150 in.

None taken and spot on post. My other ride is a boasted V8 with full Borla Cat-Back-Active valving. Can't beat the V8 Rumble and scream cracked WOT at 7200RPM's.

I want to see dyno results. If making the farting and blatting noise of a V6 louder doesn’t equal significantly improved power at the wheels, you might as well burn the cash or flush it down a toilet.
