    Hey Jack,

I like the HD or SE. Like the bottom Tacoma with Frontrunner Slimline II canopy rack, but a lower rail/mount. The thing is, when you put a short rack up there, unless you pull it, only the back lid is opening. So it got me thinking that there could be a way to hinge my top at the last third, lock down the rest and put a rack on that front part. @Sunnier got me thinking about not hinging the top so water is not an issue. I would then be limited to only tailgate access and would have to trim the back of the top to allow the tailgate to open.

This is the setup that got me thinking about it, but a lower canopy rack.

Maybe the thing to do is set the rack low and back enough that the top can be opened as designed when not running with a load on top. That would prevent a forward rail or full basket, but worth thinking about. I would still have to trim it to allow the tailgate to open when it's locked down, but hmm...I went 12 hours today and never got to pics for what I'm describing. I'll try again tomorrow.

Sounds like you want the rack to slide back and forth in the channel on mini rollers and to have it lock down when not in use so items won't shift.

You bring up a great point along the lines of keeping the current tonneau as operational as possible. I should be able to shift the legs of the rack back in the track to move the whole rack back when I need or plan to be able to open the lid. Although it's 8 bolts, 2 a leg. I'm looking at a 45" long version of this:

I question it it’s lived it’s whole life in AZ. The non-fading of the grey plastic over the front bumper makes me think otherwise.

Looks like some slightly spendy light gray and/or maybe oak (?) carpets for sale on the e-fleamarket right now, missing one rear, and some wear: https://www.ebay.com/itm/165462111722

You can see the typical sun-beatdown clearcoat fail at the top of the door. I'm guessing the roof is the same, or a PO repainted the front-end at some point. Plastics look about right for having used a trim restorer, or maybe the front-end was repainted for a reason and that plastic strip was replaced.

The real telltale signs of northern driving usually show up under the hood. If bolts under there are rusted, or steel in the engine bay is rusted, it's usually a good sign of rust belt or beach driving.

Ah! Was it you who bought the recent oak ones NOS on the fleaBay a couple weeks back?

The dark grey ones I picked up were apparently new takeoffs or NOS also. I re-bagged and tucked them away in the shop.

 Not sure if misprint, but that 3/8" high speed rachet with battery and charger are $250+ normally.

Add to that the stubby M18 impact for 10% off CC coupon and score! :bananadance: Thought I was going to have to wait till Christmas season.

Not to overstate the obvious, but those use totally different batteries.

Also, I recently won a Milwaukee packout in a raffle. Since then, I've added another piece to the packout stack, a socket organizer, and the [M12] right-angle grinder thing. I've been eyeing the right angle grinder thing for over a year and finally pulled the trigger so I can use it to clean parts for the engine rebuild. It's worth every penny. The packout kit I'm assembling will be my roadtrip/junkyard tool kit with everything I need to dismantle/fix pretty much any metric vehicle. It'll be a heavy MFer, but it fit in the 'backseat' behind the passenger seat in the 911 so it's perfect.
The socket organizer comes in today, so I expect I'll be able to post a pic tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for coming to my tedtalk.

Yep, I know about the batteries but you can't get a powered rachet in an M18. I'm actually picking up an extra M12 cp 2.0 battery as well for $60 @ 10% off. I actually got the right angle grinder myself as part of a 5 piece kit for $350 from home depot which includes the impact driver, drill, sawzall and the older and heavier impact wrench that is rated up to 450 ft-lbs.

I'd actually prefer to go the pneumatic route for different reasons but I can't put a 2-stage compressor in my living room. :D
