I installed a vinyl hood decal from RLM Signs and I like it. Cuts down on glare, makes my truck look like mine, and was pretty easy. I made a short install video as I know I was a little intimidated my first time.

I’m not affiliated with them I just like their product. They do custom stuff as well as precut decals.

I installed the LARGE option with item code: TRD 1

I really, really want to do a hood decal. It's a life saver for glare (plus I think they look awesome when done right). Especially since I drive east in the morning and west in afternoon for my commute. I'm always facing the sun.

My only worry is the UV resistance and cracking over time. I installed a quality 3M hood decal on my old FJ Cruiser. After 3 years in the Oklahoma sun, it was cracked to hell & back. I had to use a 3M eraser wheel and then have a detail shop clay bar & polish the hood to remove the "shadow lines" left by dirt build up at the edges of the vinyl. It was about $70 for the hood decal, but removing it was about $175-$200 job (as I remember).

Oklahoma gets hot, of course. Now I live in Nevada, which can be brutal by comparison. I can't imagine even a high quality vinyl holding up in 115° summer sun for more than 2 years. That's my only long term fear.

Using vinyl on cars is certainly more popular and common now than it was back in 2010, when I bought the FJ. Maybe 3M has improved the UV resistance of their vinyl product? I'm also assuming this company uses 3M vinyl. It doesn't say.

I had mine on my Tacoma for 4 years in CA (not quite NV heat) and it did great. I believe it is Avery 6 year vinyl. So maybe three years? Haha

Installed mine today. Overall I think it looks good, but I do have a few issues with it:

    1. It doesn't follow the windshield edge of the hood very well so the corners are overhanging and there is paint exposed in the middle
    2. It doesn't follow the factory body lines on the hood. It still looks good, but I think it would look even better if it followed the factory lines

I think if these 2 details were fixed it would be PERFECT. As it is I do still like it though.

Looks good! Good comments, mine was similar which at first my OCD was peaked and now I never notice it. I am going to pass along your comments though.

I installed mine a few weeks ago and I worked on it for a few hours, longer than it should have taken, because I kept thinking everything lined up...but it didn't...overall, it looks good though

Let me know what they say! I don't know your experience with them but they've been slow to respond

That was my experience as well. I emailed the guy 3x before I got the first response, got his payment info, sent him the money, then didn't hear back for 3 weeks. I finally emailed him asking what was up and when to expect my decal and it was magically mailed the next day.

very similar to my experience. Kinda responsive before payment and took few days to respond afterwards as I got no update. They apologized and stated they were super busy but after 2.5 weeks, mailed it out

Good feedback, I don’t know him personally but he did respond that he’s going out to do additional measurements for what it’s worth

Yeah I like that. Jealous of the beach cruising too. Wash that underbody though. My Tacoma was spotless for 3 years underneath and I did one day of a lot of beach driving in Baja and bam it didn’t look as good underneath anymore

Is it my eyes? Or is that sticker offset a hair to the left?

I like the idea, but think the Trd lettering is a bit much.

It’s the best I could do and it seems like the sticker isn’t cut right either :(

I did it mainly because of that stupid glare lol

Ah, no worries. I like the idea and bet it’s really difficult to judge when laying it down.

my ocd is killing me but it’s very minimal. The install took me a couple hours as I tried to lay it straight…

I ordered one from them as well. The box was screwed once it got to me. I tried my best to put it on but it was too messed up from the box. He told me he was very sorry about it. I facebook messaged him and he has been pretty responsive on there. Said this is kid of a side gig for him so I am being patient now that I know that. He is going ahead and sending me out a new one no extra charge since the first one was so messed up. I also noticed with the first one, it's not cut 100% precise but it is very close.

For anyone trying to get it centered, I got the Large size and needed 11" from the corner of the hood to the corner of the decal (windshield side) to get it centered. I taped it down to secure it, then measured the overlap of the decal from the body line up front to make sure it was straight

These look great but when driving I get the most glare off the angled part on each side that this doesn't cover making me think I'd much rather wrap the hood. Anyone else have this experience? Did it go away without the middle part reflecting up onto the angle?

I know what you’re talking about, but for me it’s usually transient but I know people that have wrapped their hood on different vehicles. Not hard for a shop to do if you like that look
