FYI - there weren't any zip ties in there, I did that myself so I didn't have an obnoxious cable hanging out of the mirror.

So what are they going to do to fix it so it doesn't happen again? Just replacing it does not fix the problem.

Ha, man I never seen a truck have so much QC issues. You can tell this is a serious result of having to do what they can to produce vehicles during the supply shit show.

They appear to be shitting themselves.

At this point a well equipped Tundra costs as much or more than the competition, offers less stuff for the money, has less capabilities than the competition, and reliability that is no better.

I am having a tough time finding any logical reasons to buy one over a competing full size truck.

Keep me posted if they’re able to get you straightened out without charging. I will too next week once I hear from the dealer. Such a shame, I even racked up as much miles as possible to make sure I was in the clear of the waste gate issue before irresponsibly driving from CO to Outer banks NC. Of course my wife mentions how well the truck did with a long road trip on the last day and that’s when the freaking mirror falls apart. Guess it could definitely be worse since it still drives but being reminded of it with a huge black screen on the right side of the pano camera view just rubs it in haha

Contacted my dealer and so long as the mirror doesn’t look like it took an impact from an object, it will be covered under warranty. They went ahead and are ordering the part and will contact me to come in once it arrives

Well, look at the bright side. You are now in Bend and have a bazillion different breweries to choose from to drown your sorrows away in. I’m headed over the pass in a few days with some buddies to see how many we can burn through this time. So long the pass stays open at least.

While it's not a list of reported issues, there is a post somewhere of things you should inspect before taking your new Tundra home. It's long.

Got in with a service advisor today - they seemed very accommodating and didn’t seem to be too surprised by the mirror. They ordered a whole side mirror assembly with camera for me as well at no cost and no hassle. Situation sucks but at least our experiences seem consistent in getting it fixed.

I would file a report with NHTSA since losing a part that big at 80 mph is a safety issue for the person behind you. Something like that generates a recall if it occurs enough times.

I just had the exact same thing happen at 275 miles. Only had the truck for 2 damn days! Super disappointed in the quality of my 1794 TRD. I also have dead Pixels in my head unit and a loose vent assembly on the dash. WTF Toyota!

Man, that sucks. Sorry to hear about that. You know the drill, Get to the dealer so they can order a new assembly. Hopefully the replacement parts don’t have the same QC issue.

And there is also a huge paint chip out of my driver side mirror as well. Almost like that under panel is smashed in there with so tight it doesn't give the plastic any room to expand, contract or flex.

Just wait until the Hybrid models come out. That will add even more issues that people report.

No wonder 2nd gen used Tundras are still fetching top dollar. Who knows how long these turbos and hybrid systems last but I bet it won't be as durable as the 5.7 V8

To update I was on HWY 36 in Texas today, wind gusts up to 50mph, met an 18 wheeler on my drivers side going 80+ and it microburst under my truck and ripped the passenger side camera and trap door completely off. I went to the dealer and it is a “known” issue and a new assembly has been developed by Toyota to fix the issue. Needless to say the servicing department is ordering both assemblies for both sides and will repair them when they come in. Hope to get an ETA tomorrow.

Update: Got home from our Bend, OR trip and the dealer fixed the mirror and re-calibrated the cameras (apparently required upon replacing the part). In addition while it was there, I told them about the rear window seal and how it was pulling up, as well as the fuel gauge issue. Toyota knows about both of these issues, and placed an order for new seals (back-ordered currently). No fix for fuel gauge issue as of now but they are working on a software update or some other sort of fix to be announced soon.

What happened with your fuel gauge? I did not know about this issue.

It's a common fuel gauge issue folks are having where for example you know you have a 1/4 tank of fuel, but then you'll go start up your rig in the morning and your fuel gauge will show it's full. There are several threads about it.

My Toyota dealership said they got the mirror assembly in but did not get the camera yet… I’m still waiting for them to reach back out.

My dealer replaced the bottom cover that also contains the camera. All good now, and looks just like it came from factory.

My dealer has the assemblies in and I’m scheduled to get them both replaced mid May. Do the new assemblies look different than the old? More secure?
