One more question: will the sika bead smooth out by running a wet finger down the bead like caulk?

 

That one wasn't for me but mask off your garage trim regardless and you will get a cleaner result. I would feather the caulk to the tape line and pull the tape before the caulk dries.

Yeah, the lower viscosity stuff is labeled "self leveling", you'll find that with the 'crack fix' product or whatever.

And basically, this. I know some people that swear otherwise, using tape will create a lip or edge to pull up, but I've only found that with silicone. If you pull the tape on elastomeric stuff right after laying the bead, I find mine lays down pretty nicely. Once it's set, maybe not as much.

Anyway, don't listen to us. You'll find Sika's instructions at the links I provided, and they specifically say to 'dry tool', not 'wet tool' with the construction sealant. Their website is really well built. I initially learned about their Sikaflex crack fix products from the guy who drilled and pumped the wall cracks in my basement. He noticed the horizontal floor cracks and told me it's what their company (a high dollar outfit) uses one all floor cracks and floor-wall joints. I've since used various products of theirs, but the two products, construction sealant and the crack fix, are top notch stuff.

Look at all the damage the Tundra caused to the Honda. If it's found to be the Tundra's fault, your insurance co is going to have a hefty bill. I think that's a big part of the expense, beside the cost of parts to fix your own truck.

 

@Sunnier - how was the trip?

 

A bit more eventful… and expensive… than planned. We visited all of the inhabited Marquesas islands (French Polynesia)…, which has been on my bucket list for a couple of decades. And, while we are adamantly not “cruise people”, the only way to reach all of them is by cargo ship. So cruise we did.

We had a fabulous time, have zero regrets about throwing the money and planning at this once in a lifetime adventure!, but the Covid everyone who travels aboard a ship must expect, did not pass us by. So, after carefully avoiding contagion for 2+ years, we added it to our fambly adventure experience.

We three have all had far worse “flues”— but never any more expensive. Lol, isolating in Tahiti costs a bit more than in the comfort of our own hovel.

In any case, we all got along well throughout, kept the teenager busy with a basketball we bought on Ua Pou, and arrived home tonight to warm welcomes from neighbors, coworkers, and— relief!— employers. A fun, memorable vacation!

 

I did get access to Wi-Fi early this week and I am fairly well caught up, I think. I’m glad we found Noah!, and add myself to those wishful for a few good things to ease the load (life has peaks and troughs, for sure); I read with excitement the progress on your truck and Chris’s, although I am currently sad for Chris, knowing about the brake situation. AND… Panhandlemonium!!

Dang!, there are several other things I had in mind to mention that struck me as particularly noteworthy, but as I am on my first neighborhood walk in a month, my mind is taking a break from daily logistics.

 

Well great stuff, hold the COVID! Glad everything else went well - sounds incredible. Now you get a vacation from your vacation

 

Exactly. We’re all really excited to go to work and school. All aspects good for counting our blessings.

Sorry, I don’t mean to be an ass, asking, I just know they’re in a mess. If I was to have trouble off-road though, those’d be two good trail buddies I’d trust to help me through it. I’m hoping wherever they towed to, had a workable solution. Or that they limped into camp…, because Bruce and other braniacs are usually nearby to lend a hand. And a cool thing about that event is, other attendees may have what you need and don’t have. This’d be the first year that could be true for 1st gens….

 

No not at all, it's a great idea - It didn't really don on me to ask if they needed anything sent. Last I heard there was a question if the caliper was stripped and it was being towed to a shop. Quiet since then except for the air Des got on accident. Hopefully that means they are too busy running...

 

I didn’t see the bit about Des getting airborne— but that’s (almost-?) ALWAYS a good thing!! Actually. Air is always good; landing can be the differentiating experience….

Well. I’m home, tuned in for updates. My experience with T2S has been, even if there’s signal at camp, there’s way too much cool stuff happening to spend time on line, between trail runs. Starting Sunday, our threads should fill up with pics and cool stories. Hope so.

 

Des ended up with a rapid air-down of his rear right tire. He has 2 spares but sounded like he was going to be able to re-seat the one on there...

 

Glad to hear you're back Sunny and had a chance to have all those experiences, maybe not one of them. I'm glad you admitted you're not "cruise people" because this whole thing did have me worried...

Chris, Frenchy and I are all together now. Chris' brakes are fixed, it was a just a matter of the shop reusing the fittings and reflaring a line as we theorized.

My dumb butt drove into a mud pit tonight and had to be pulled out. I didn't earn the shackle of shame last year, but I'm sure on the way this year.

Ha! I know you want that SoS! Hmmn, to better evaluate your standing in that race, can you let us know, were you pulled out by the trail buddies in your present company, or were you aided by a rescue crew dispatched from camp (who may have missed free brisket or booze to accomplish your mission reset)? And… did you reset your tire while others present mainly drank beer and talked about it-?… a self-rescue immediately following a T2S dispatched rescue *may* lower your dumbass standing….

Glad to see you made it back intact, must've been "pure hell" recuperating in Tahiti!

I've been on boats most of my life, but never been on a cruise before. My better half two-thirds picked up one as a customer recently, they're apparently sending us on an all-expenses paid adventure later this year to 'experience their product' so I guess my decades-long streak of avoiding floating hotels will end this year. My parents are going on their 1st soon too, they have similar concerns about sick ships, but I guess it is what it is.

 

And most importantly, did you chase butane with a match?

 

Such a satisfying *FOOF* *BOMP*. I could listen to audio clips of it for hours. Someone needs to make a song out of that sound.

 

SOOOO satisfying. But recording sounds like a good idea - I don't need to hear it in person.

 

Too late to ask if want to see that one. My stove used to kick on the igniter about 10 seconds after the gas kicked in (before I had it fixed) and my last gf took a pic of me jumping back when the fireball exploded in my face as I was checking on the broiler drawer underneath the main oven.

A better idea is an empty propane tank, a flare and a rifle with enough firepower to pierce it for some late afternoon entertainment if you're on a property nobody can see/hear.
