For most states, it's the tax benefit that makes it worthwhile for trading in. You may make more selling private, but that would be offset some or all by the taxes paid on the new truck.

 

It is pretty easy to figure out based on your tax rate IMO 500 is still 500

I don't follow. My 22 was 65K. If I didn't trade a vehicle in, I would have owed $4200 in taxes because the entire amount is taxed. Because I traded in, I was only taxed on the sale price minus the trade in, so I was taxed on only 35K. So I would have needed a private buyer to offer a minimum of 2K more in order to break even against the tax advantage of the trade in. At that point, less of a headache to just trade in for 2K less than private buy.

 

7.25%. that's over $4700 in taxes on a 65K platinum.

 

You are correct but I sold mine for 4K more than they offered on trade-in and like I said more money in my pocket is more money in my pocket

I have also heard of dealerships not selling vehicles a unless you have a trade-in especially new Tundras

 

I've heard that too. The dealership I bought the 22 from was selling all of their tundras at MSRP but you had to finance through them. Toyota was offering 2.99 interest so wasn't a big deal

 

I found mine sitting on a lot by dumb luck that someone had spoken for but realized it didn’t fit in their garage. It was on the lot for 1 hour. it was exactly the way I had put a deposit on one and ordered two months prior they gave me a price for my trade-in I didn’t like it and sold it out right they also sold at MSRP very good to deal with

 

I paid 5k over MSRP for my platinum. I know I got F**led but I love the truck and I didn’t have to wait 6 months. I’m also buying out my lease on my old car and selling it for 10k more than I owe so I guess I’m up…I had an 2018 Mercedes E class and this platinum is much more luxurious and has way more features. I don’t regret paying over MSRP.
