POR-15 is fine but WEAR DAMN GLOVES. The stuff will stick to your hands like superglue, harden almost instantly, and you'll be stuck with it for days.

It's good stuff, just follow the directions, and be sure to remove all rust. If surface rust, Naval jelly works great, again, follow instructions, 10-15 mins to treat, although I've known people in bad situations (deep rust) who've applied and wrapped with cling wrap overnight to clear heavy stuff. Even if you choose to use mechanical methods of removing, use Naval jelly on the areas you cleared afterward to clear the microscopic crap.

Started by hand with ratchet, the 2 that didn't move I then soaked again tried again then hit with 1/2" DeWalt battery impact. No budging so then heated and things loosened.

Looks damn good! Never used POR. I've read that it sounds like a coating so basically everything needs to be clean and dry as can be before or it will trap moisture?

Thanks, wouldn't ospho do basically the same as naval jelly? I have ospho already. They all smell like death, so I assume they do basically the same thing.ive used naval jelly on cast parts for an old factory cart turned table years ago but it's not exposed to the elements. That shit was stankonia!

    1. Yes. Remove brake lines, I would cap them off with 1/4" vacuum caps. Also just unclip the brake cables so you can pull the axles with the drums as one.
    2. OEM gasket
    3. Bulkhead? Not sure what you mean.
    4. Open diff use any synthetic. Clutch type LSD (OEM or aftermarket) Motul 90 pa or Lucas 75w90 + friction modifier. (Motul has it already.)

No need for 140 oil unless you've got a ton of HP and are getting it hot. Or you plan to tow over capacity.

Well it’s been a super frustrating couple of days. Problems started with upper ball joints and a bearing press that’s just awkward, when pulling passenger side I notice that the hub had some pretty intense friction to turn so for 4th time (2 driver 2 passenger)I thought I was going to need to press out yet another hub bearing. No more screwing around this time and went to Toyota for OEM bearing…the package was labeled @mazon online sales…also labeled koyo which I found online for half the price…color me surprised. Currently drivers side is reassembled upper ball joint, lower ball joint, outer tie rod end and sway bar end links replaced. Hopefully I can get that bearing pressed back in and have the passenger side reassembled in short order. Then center support bearing, PCV valve and maybe take a gander at some spark plugs….then I can finally detail the interior and exterior of the truck which I’m sure will bring me to the end of my “vacation”

I have it stuck in my head water is an activator for POR-15, but my memory is fuzzy on things like that. I think that's why it hardens rapidly on your skin when it makes contact, same as super glue.

I think Ospho is a rust converter? I've never used it.

Naval jelly is straight-up acid gel. Mostly phosphoric acid (~25%) with a tinge of sulfuric acid (~2%). Most of the rest is straight-up water and thickeners/stabilizers to keep it in gel format. No-frills acid etch king.

Anyway, here's teh POR-15 instruction sheet courtesy of Summit Racing, if it's interesting: https://static.summitracing.com/global/images/instructions/por-15 application info.pdf

Never order auto parts from scAmazon or fleaBay, and if you didn't, never order from wheover you did again, they must be doing fulfillment using scAmazon warehouses. Stick with big, established names like Summit Racing and Rock Auto. You never know what you're going to get w/scAmazon or fleaBay, both are a constant source of counterfeits, open-box swaps, etc. Neither have any viable path to keep counterfeits out of their inventory because they warehouse bulk inventory for anyone and everyone and can't or won't scan incoming inventory to their warehouses, that would cost tens of thousands of bucks out of Bezos' tens of millons of salary each year and he ain't having that when it only causes problems for commoners like us.

Yep, there are just some things to never buy off Amazon. I ordered a Yeti cup with Amazon as the retailer and it was a counterfeit. Never buy car parts off Amazon and absolutely never buy any type of food product off there either, not even for your dog. All the stuff is fake, expired or bad. About the only thing I buy off Amazon nowadays are cheap phone cases and screen protectors.

@alb1k you live next to the beach, do you use anything for rust prevention on all the aftermarket suspension?

I'm 1/2 mile away so not as much salt as if I was on the beach. I've been touching and wiping and pulling it so much I't can't really rust at the moment. I did test Fluid Film a while back. I like it but not so much on shiny parts like coils. Only because the rattle can is hard to spray uniform. I may try that Blaster stuff. This stuff is pretty cool for a look good but not last as long application to the frame and wheel wells, probably books good on suspension as well.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001XSJI38?ie=UTF8

Once I get done messing with parts for a while I'm going to try to nail down what's best. Probably FF or Blaster for frame and wheel wells, leafs, etc.

I'm not sure what coilovers or pretty parts like the best. Probably something not terribly long lasting if it looks great. But I am sick of road grime getting them dirty. Same with the rear shocks. Brushed aluminum sucks up dirt.

Thanks for the input, let me know if you find something you like. I am not terribly close either but I am at the beach every weekend and close enough where the onshores blow salt water into the air. Nothing is worse then those shiny coilovers getting rusty. I used MavSteel on the billies but it was a little tacky and left a slight blue tint and im not sure yet if i want to spray the front coilovers/ucas with it yet.

Ya for sure. It also blows harder more often by you. The boy went out on a ridiculous blown out day at the rock because we were there. Someone called 911 because it looked like an emergency. lol. I didn't get out of the truck to talk to Harbor Patrol - it was freezing!

I used Chassis Saver, because I didn't have to use the whole POR15 kit. First I got rid of any scale, using a needle scaler. Degreased, washed, and let dry over night. Then just brushed the Chassis Saver.

@shifty` this is what I was talking about bought from the dealership but labeled for scamazon online sales, definitely kind of curious.
Everything went back together swimmingly today, precisely the opposite of Monday and Tuesday. Alignment appointment in the morning, carrier bearing will be saved for next week before heading back to VA.

I take that as that part was originally intended to be sold on their online scamazon store shipped from that dealership. That dealership probably lists their products on there and ships locally. If it isn't shipping from Amazon you're more likely to be in the clear.

For anyone considering on using POR-15, I would recommend semi-gloss black if you want to match it to the color of the original frame.

Also two coats to be thorough and always use a degreaser and metal etch (for non-rusty or exposed ground off metal areas) so it will bind. Found that out the hard way originally. The metal etch is optional, but not the degreaser.

Be thorough in removing the rust mechanically though (wire brush or die grinder with wire wheel/cup)

I had a weird situation this morning. I went to lock my truck at the gym and the alarm went off. No combination of button pushing on the key fob would turn it off. I had to open the door with the key, press the lock/unlock button on the door a few times, close the door, and eventually it went off.

Now the key fob doesn't work at all. It's a new-ish one too so I doubt it's the battery. Anyone experience this before?

    thanks!
