    Hi there,
I'm looking at a couple of KMC wheel styles and both come in a 17x8 +20 and and 17x9 +18.

I have a 285/70 tire that I'll be mounting and understand that there are three major things to consider given that both with fit and the difference in offsets not noticable.

    1) tire shape when mounted. - 17x8 will result in a more roundded /bulbus sidewall vs the 17x9 where the sidewall will be more flat
    2) ride characteristics.- the 17x8 will result in more body roll when cornering
    3) future tire size choices - I can slap on larger tires to a 9" wife wheel althought it looks like anything I'd ever want can be mounted on an 8inch wide tire

Did I get that stuff right?

    Am I missing anything?

While most 17’s seem to fit please be aware that not all fit (even from the same manufacturer apparently) so double checking that they do fit is something you may want to ensure (though you may have done this already).

…for the ones that do fit some advice we have seen were things like “ensuring the wheel weights are appropriately placed to not contact the caliper, etc” as it’s still a tight fit for those that do fit.

Load rating/sidewall stiffness can affect your roll also (passenger vs E for instance).

Otherwise I think you have got the general just of the situation so looking forward to see how it turns out.

Thanks big juice. Indeed, the test fit may make my decision for me. This waiting game for my truck really sucks.

I'm still looking at the stadiums in 17x8 in +35 too and I'm pretty sure that the +12s are out now that I've identied some alternatives in offsets I prefer that I don't hate! Lol

I went with the 17's because I couldn't find anything in 18" wheels that had an offset less than +20 and I didn't want any poke at all.

The tread is completely under the fenders, just the bulge on the sidewall pokes a little bit.

For those of you that have done the DIY route. I had the hardest time trying to turn the strut to make it fit in the lower control arm. Any tips or tricks? I tried compressing the springs still wouldn't budge. I have the SR5 and the Amazon 2" spacer. Looking for ideas. Bent a few tools already. ‍♂️

I think it's also just about location. If you were local to me I would have bought these already.

Helps to have a breaker bar or a pry bar. I used a breaker bar handle to turn mine. They're tough for sure, but it'll turn given enough force.

I assume you have, but if you haven't...the best thing to do is install the 4 bolts into the top hat and secure the entire assembly. That will hold it in place while focus on turning it. Then, with the LCA dropped & out of the way...you put your breaker bar and turn to align. Worst case scenario, you could grab the jack handle and use that in combination with some sort of cheater pipe.

Side note: The spring isn't causing it to be stiff. In fact, the spring and the inner strut are really separate entities. The spring carries the weight of the truck. The inner strut is what dampens the "bounce" of the truck. Compressing the spring isn't doing anything to help you.

There's no real trick to it, unfortunately. Only strength combined with a strong lever that won't bend is really the only ticket.

I just keep them listed on eBay, FB Marketplace, and Craig's List. Not a lot of interest yet. Got one guy from eBay interested but wouldn't be able to pick them up (& pay for them) until mid-June.

    They'll sell eventually. haha.

I placed the bottom portion where it goes in the lower control arm. Then I let it lean towards me and I placed a pry bar between two of the top hat bolts and turned it. The driver side I got perfectly in one try and the passenger side I had to do twice, it needed a tweak. Once you’re done twisting it you can check it by placing the top in its place and giving your best judgment if the bottom lines up. Super easy, don’t over think it. I hope I explained it well enough

you will love it! I have a spacer level kit for the front but all the local shops are booked out for a month and didn't want to wait... I feel like it handles just as good if not better than it did factory.. I am assuming a spacer level lift will probably make it a lot more "stiff" on the fence if I am going to get it installed now or not...

That looks great! For your 2 mpg loss, did you take into account the speedometer/odometer error with the taller tires or did you just go by the MPG on the display? The tires are probably 10-12% taller so it will cause quite an error in both, showing you are going slower than you are on the speedo and traveling a shorter distance than what you actually traveled.

The 2 mpg drop does NOT account for the larger tire... great point... it was just a 20 mile freeway run to the tire shop... (Pre) then back home (Post tire install).. lol so maybe it isn't that bad.

Going on Day 5 of having mine up for sale. Have had quite a bit of interest but a bunch of lowball offers so far. Biggest thing I've battled with (despite my description) is people asking "Will it fit my truck?". It's like, dude... That's not my job. You have to figure that out for yourself. Had an offer for $1,000 & the person was going to drive 2 hour to pick them up. Night before, I got a message from the person & they realized they wheels wouldn't fit their truck... Frustrating as hell. Going to give it until the weekend & if not, I'm going to reduce the price a bit & take something closer to what I've been getting offered.

What do you have your's listed for?
