Turbo issue

I doubt it’s software otherwise everyone would have this issue. Maybe actuator/sensor issue but not software.

 

I’m pretty certain there’s a thread on here about Toyota having issues at highway speed’s with the electronic air damper in the front of the truck that would be my guess

Maybe Toyota should take a page from the Ford/GM playbook, where they actually roll out updates every 3 years, alternating chassis and driveline, instead designing a ground-up truck every 16 years.

 

If Toyota knew how to build a decent full-size pickup truck that would actually sell some. Considering how pitifully small Tundra market share is, it's obvious that Toyota doesn't have a clue about how to make a decent pickup.

How many times are you going to parrot the same nonsense? This truck is not brand new from the ground up. It uses a proven engine (current supplier issues notwithstanding) that has been around for years in other platforms. Various other proven systems are reused and upcycled from other Toyota/Lexus platforms. And Toyota’s history of superior reliability over the long term speaks for itself. They need to stay as far away as possible from Ford’s “release it and figure it out later” method.

To me, every automaker releasing new vehicles near the end of a global situation that none of us has ever seen in our lifetimes is having unprecedented troubles. The release issues are to be expected, even from Toyota, but again there are factors outside their control when it comes to getting things taken care of quickly. I keep coming back to the example of one forum member’s ‘22 sitting at the dealer for weeks waiting on a coilover that doesn’t exist yet.

The QC stuff is odd and very un-Toyotalike. But I don’t think there’s reason to assume they just all of a sudden shit the bed and gave up on their proven way of doing things.

Half the time you seem to post fairly knowledgeable stuff, and half the time it just seems like you’re trolling. Congrats on keeping us guessing I suppose.

Those are the 2 biggest hurdles that keep their market share small. Idiots who "only buy American" that don't realize their trucks are just as foreign as anything else, and those same idiots bitching at companies if they don't "buy American" for their fleets. Confirmation bias is really hard to overcome especially if you don't recognize that it's a thing. Look outside the States and you'll see that Toyota makes plenty of excellent trucks and they are used worldwide.

 

Truck brand loyalty combined with a sore lack of imagination and innovation from Toyota. The mechanicals of the new Tundra were obsolete from Day 1. Add that to QC problems and its hard to imagine the Tundra making inroads in the domestic FS truck market. Hopefully they do better with the Tacoma and 4Runner redesigns.

 

I can partially agree with some of that. Toyota has already expressed a lack of interest in taking on a bigger share of the FS truck market, too. The hard part for me to watch is the problems that owners are having. Toyota is never at the leading edge of tech or features and they openly admit it, but it's always been fine because the stuff they launched was tried and true and less prone to the issues we see in the latest greatest things. This Tundra launch has been difficult, and that's a bummer. I don't want to see any automaker put out a vehicle that is going to struggle.

 

Eh I’d say the new tundra has pretty problematic electronics.

Vast majority of CEL has been electronic related. Grille shutter, parking brake, steering, wastegate actuator. Or just tripping for no reason.

 

I'm not saying it's more problematic than prior launches of brand new vehicles, nor am I saying that Toyota won't figure it out, but trying to say it isn't problematic is playing ostrich. There are issues. Several, and they are being reported by multiple customers. The true scale is hard to gauge because you will get the amplification of our connected society, but you also don't see people who aren't blasting it everywhere. The true scope is difficult to know, but claiming that saying it is problematic is "pure unfounded speculation" is utter tripe. It is problematic, the only question is HOW problematic.

The disappointment stems from Toyota's own history and practice of not releasing brand new things until they were tested out. They are using an engine they've had for some time and that along with their history played into the expectations. Toyota is known for general reliability and QC, so it's 100% understandable that a difficult roll out like this with multiple issues including: turbo failure, exterior badges falling off, improper/defective weather seals, and even mismatched interior panels from one door to another, are all going to be disappointing to see.

 

Anyone here of the 600,000 Ford trucks that just got recalled?

We can go back-and-forth with this all day long. Did you hear about the 500,000 Toyota and Lexus cars that are recently recalled as well? Get used to this. Lots of bad parts coming from vendors because of the shortages.

 

Friday CEL and parking break support malfunction, sitting at dealer today Monday am.

fired up truck this morning and codes and cel cleared. Drove it hard on highway on way to dealership but still nothing.

anyone know if turbo codes were and off and on thing? Or could this be some other issue. I hope it’s something else

 

Sounds like a parking brake support malfunction, not a turbo issue I believe turbo issues reduced engine power

 

I've heard of the dealer clearing the CEL and not returning for a while, and doing the battery reset trick to clear it.

CEL was an air shutter actuator that was staying on. Software update corrected the issue. Service said no issues at all with turbo!!!!

 

We definitely live in weirdo world when we're taking bets on what the check engine light is going to be. On a Toyota!

 

Do the tundras have true oil gauges or dummy gauges like a lot of vehicles?

 

Crazy that people think it’s all just pure bias and DURRR IT’S AMERICAN. Everyone I talk to knows the Tundra is built in Texas, and everyone knows US vehicles have large foreign parts contents. I think you’re the one with blind loyalty that feels the need to defend any criticism against the Tundra

 

Except I don't have any loyalty to them or any brand. I look at products, analyze what suits me, and then I'll buy whatever meets my needs. If I had any plans that included a travel trailer I'd be buying a Ford HD with the 7.3 engine. If midsize trucks weren't so close in cost to a 1/2 ton I probably would have bought a Colorado ZR2 or Ford Ranger. The Tundra just suits my individual needs better and was more truck than a midsize for similar cost.

My statement comes from repeatedly hearing from Ford, Dodge, and Chevy owners that I "should have bought American" and that my truck is foreign made. I'm speaking from my own personal experience with people. You're experience may be different, but that doesn't make mine any less valid.

 

I have heard “you shoulda bought ‘Merican!” more than a few times regarding my Tundra. Usually followed by “Don’t the MPGs suck in that thing?” or “I like the color, though.” The first thing my grandpa said when he saw my new truck was something about Pearl Harbor that I won’t repeat verbatim here.

The point is, you might understand that a lot of your domestic truck was made overseas, but many people don’t. Also, if you hang around here long enough, you’ll see that all of the forum regulars are well aware of the Tundra’s shortcomings. It’s the best made truck and the most dependable, but if I’m honest, I’d probably be super jealous of your available payload in that XL F150.

 

Big difference between a foreign company that builds vehicles in USA and employs American workers, and an "American" company that has no problem outsourcing US jobs, killing working class job opportunities, why doesn't corporate outsource themselves, too?

Those morons who defend "buying American because at least the money comes back" are illiterate and don't realize that the rich people who outsourced your jobs don't share their profits with anyone but themselves.

 

I mean GM invests a lot in China, are they honorable for being a foreign company creating jobs in China?

 

Not from my perspective. I'm not living in China, so an American company investing in China doesn't benefit me.
