I remember gas prices dropping for some reason when I got my driver license around 2000. I distinctly remember driving to the other side of town for the cheapest gas, and getting it for $0.87, and this was in Southern California. Such great times.

Edit: It was in December 2001, and it dropped because of the September 11th attacks. Maybe not such great times after all.

Such kickass machines. My 1st car was a 76 4 door with that gutless ass 351w and a 2bbl carb. It weighed more and got better mileage than my truck :(

That was considered a "mid sized" car back then.

I agree, although, I have seen gas prices double in my area since I got my license only about 7 years ago.

Gas is pretty much the same price it has been for 40 years as a comparison to minimum wage to the price of a gallon of gas.

1985 gas was about $1.10 in Ca and minimum wage was $3.10
2022 gas is about $5.50 in Ca and the minimum wage is $15.00.

Honestly the only thing that has gotten cheaper over the years is pizza. I remember my dad driving for Dominos in the 90's as a side hustle and a pizza was $10. A pizza is still $10 or even cheaper from Dominos now. Just food for thought.

First job for me minimum wage was $5.15 with gas at $1.10. I complained when it went up to $1.19. Current minimum wage is $7.25 and gas is over $4 per gallon. In no way, shape, or form is it the same percentage on minimum wage.

Note that my numbers were specific to Ca. I understand that federal minimum wage has not kept up over the years.

I rode in one of the GM 350 diesels. Nice highway cruisers but a ocean going container ship would smoke it in the 1/4 mile drags.

The motorcycle wreck really fogged up my early memories, but i have physical photographs to remind me of the freedom of youth.

no cell phone leash, no hourly check-ins…just be home by 9pm. My buddies kids might as well have a tracking collar, and arent allowed out of the yard. My friends and i had a range of about 10 miles on bikes and 20 miles on dirtbikes. No parents watching, no cops hassling (as long as we didnt get caught in the road).

That's right, $20 isn't even enough fumes to cause it to burp!

I dont know if there are just more psychos out nowadays or if we are just able to know about the ones that are more easily now than before but being that I am a new parent, i understand how people are more worried about things nowadays.

Societal degradation has progressed. It is absolutely worse now that it was 30, 40, or 50 years ago in that respect.

Yeah, CNN wrecked it all when Ted took us into the 24 hour news cycle, and it has only made things worse across the board. It matters not what your political, societal, environmental, or social leanings are, there will be a news outlet somewhere that will feed it 24/7/365.

Meh I always remember it being around $3-$8 over my life time, maybe before I drove it could of been $2.38 but it doesn't seem to change much currently its $4.37 where I am and before I moved a year ago $3.40 was the number. Still haven't changed me in what I drive other than my last two trucks where 4 city 8 highway and 13.5 all around heck my last truck I feel like I looked at it and it got nervous and started drinking gas.

I remember a humor maagazine, National Lampoon maybe, predicting that gas would never go above $1/gal because the pumps would only go to 99.9. When gas did go to $1, the stations around here started selling it by the liter.

I remember an issue years ago that posting what the Taxes per gallon of gas on signage was illegal back in the day. Google isn't able to get me that information today.

I remember seeing signs on the pump stating how much the taxes were on each gallon. Hurt someone's feelings so they removed that information?
