Long story short my catalytic converters got stolen yesterday. I’m looking at ordering the full Cbi skid plate set to make it harder next time. Will they fit on a stock truck?

    thanks

Yes they will. If you're doing the fuel tank as well, you may need the fuel tank straps that some companies say you'll need.

At this point I just hope they didn’t total my truck. All four are gone, they hit the drive shaft with the sawzall. Thankfully fuel lines don’t look hurt. Dealership says truck is safe to drive and I hope it really is.

So along with this issue. My insurance doesnt want to pay for oem cats and national back order etc.

Are aftermarket cats going to cause me issues?

Yes they will. Many that have installed aftermarket cats have had check engine light issues. You might be able to get the dealer to give you something stating that to provide to the insurance company.

YES, BUT PLEASE READ. I installed the full CBI skid due to its transfer case protection and love it. As far as protection for your truck it is incredible and insanely well made. Problem is as far as cat protection goes while it is good it is very limited. Modern scum thieves are using the mini-Milwaukee sawsall with a longer 9-12" blade. This fits easily into the gap in front of the fwd most cat to cut the pipe there. Behind the rear cat the pipe is cut and the entire unit is pulled out the rear. Yes, its more difficult but any thief who has done a few it wouldn't add a full minute to the job. I riveted pieces of hardened steel to the rear and mid-skid to prevent this but its another job you probably weren't expecting. The biggest deterrent of this skid might be the second the walking abortion sees it he probably moves on. I live in AZ where the rocks off-road are our biggest concern but if your primary goal is just cat-protection I would go with the "Valhalla Shield". You save money and from what I have seen from the pics it seems to protect the access to the front of the cats although I have never seen one in person, maybe someone can chime in on that. One more thing, if you buy the CBI go ahead and just buy them already power coated as I bought the unfinished steel and between the primers and finish coats + time I probably saved very little and still did not achieve the same protection.

Just to clarify my above statement. I am in no way ripping on CBI. They were made for off-road protection and do that better than any brand but for a price. I'm not sure any brand of skid plate offers perfect cat-protection since none of them were designed for that reason. I like the Valhalla purely because of what I have read on this site. It is a small business where a guy designed a product for cat-protection and not as off-road use although it seems they go hand-in-hand as looking at it obviously it would offer great off-road service.

This would be correct. For full cat protection, go with Valhalla from @Classy63. CBI is solid stuff, but expensive, and does not close off the cats 100%. We have a 2020 4Runner and just put a full set of CBI skids on it. That was our best coverage option since there aren't many options for 4Runner cat protection. The ones that are available are aluminum and we wanted steel.

You see here in the new 2022 RCI skid they simply added a piece to the side of the skid to protect it from any type of saw. This is what all skid plate manufacturers need to do.Screenshot (19).jpg

You can cut it but it's still a deterrent. The add-ons for the 07-21 will be released very shortly.
