I just changed my oil today , as I was done I realized I didn’t remember seeing the small cylindrical metal strainer attached the cap as I installed the new filter . I found it in the old filter later . Does anyone know if not having that part is a problem ?

I would correct it. That piece might keep the filter from collapsing.
    Just me.

In short, yes. Not having it in there could cause the filter to collapse on itself.

Do you think I could just insert the piece into the filter . Don’t know what happened to the pieces that connect it to the cap .

There's no tabs on the bottom of the tube?

The tube should have I believe 4 tabs on the bottom of the tube that slides into 4 slots on the bottom of the cap.

It’s fixed . I pulled the cap off and the other pieces were still attached to the inside of the cap . The “strainer” slid right back on . We’re all good . Lost maybe 1/2 quart of oil

I don't understand. What pieces were still attached? There should only be the tube, the cap, and a spring. :monocle: But maybe Dorman is different from stock. :notsure:

The spring and cap that the tube attaches to were still in the main cap . The tube had just come off

Does anyone else have a problem seating the new filter all the way to the base of the center tube? Does it need to be all the way to the base, or does it just need to cover the holes in the tube? The higher end filters give me this problem (toyota, Mobil etc..)

It should seat without any issue. Double check that inner perforated tube to make sure it is installed correctly.
