I told my daughters and my grandsons that if they expect the other person to do the dumbest thing possible, they'll always be prepared and that they'll rarely be disappointed.

 

This company needs a union. The just shitcanned the guy. Well, forced him to resign.
He may have a case against the company. Fellow coworker is going to get him legal representation contact info. He said he can't afford a lawyer, so I told him "I can."

The Challenger may not happen if I'm funding a lawsuit.

 

Not to deflate that, but Wyoming is an employment-at-will state (like TX). The relationship can be severed at any time, for any reason. It's a hard hill to climb to even get a court to entertain the suit.

 

You're a good dude, don't kill your savings account for anyone other than family. Even family doesn't always get the green light for me.

 

He's a disabled veteran and can press under that protected class. He's been bullied and targeted since the new HR director stepped in. Every man in her department has been terminated. She fired one guy that had relocated from across the country the day after his training was complete so she could hire her best friend for the position. Her friend who was not trained for the job like the guy she fired.... Wyoming is hard to press it in, but it can be done.

 

I'd rather lose my job by torpedoing a bad HR/possibly the company than just because somebody overhears a private conversation. They did that to one of the guys, too.

 

That smells like discrimination.

Yup, but discrimination/harassment gives no ducks about intent. Only if the victim feels targeted. He's in a protected class, and as the every male has been fired since the beginning of the year, there's a chance discrimination based on sex.

 

I'd rather keep it here and mildly quiet. I just need to be able to vent to the universe.

It does sound like something's fishy. The EEOC might be a better first phone call than a moneygrubber lawyer.

VA is an at will state. You can be fired for a good reason, a bad reason or no reason. Discrimination is a different story. And there's always the chance that the company doesn't want the publicity that comes with a lawsuit and will settle. I'd say consult a good lawyer and get the options.

 

Don't get involved...You'll quickly be out of money and the case will always be "nearly there". Remember the last gift/loan you made (that you told us about) to the person that then ghosted you?!

If the guy has a real case, he can find someone to work for free and take a % of the award. Plus, if work finds out you're involved they'll dump you too.

Anyway, to answer some stuff:

• About not killing savings/getting screwed over; won't compromise myself financially and if I get ghosted that's on that person. So be it. If a friend needs help and I don't help for fear of that, how do look at myself in the mirror?
• The lawyer he's being referred to has dealt with this company for other cases of harassment.
• Other jobs similar in the area? Nope. Not one that I know of.
• Onlyfans... not unless people will pay me not to show up.

Anyway, it is what it is. I'll keep my head down generally, but gotta do what i feel is right. Resume prep and if I can milk it another year or two I might be able to get certifications on their dime. Maybe things will get better. I'm just not planning on it.

We need service techs, Field hands, project managers, assistant PMs, field “engineers” (like jr assistant pm’s) for electrical, piping, plumbing, refrigeration, Sheetmetal, structural steel, concrete, etc. For actual workers using tools, we’re a union shop
